I've tried everything but when people join, they just aren't active. Members come and go and sometimes a board just get's stale. Try always coming up with new, unique and interesting ideas and PM every registered user with them. Like having contests like scavenger hunts, or other things to offer to renew the interest for many of them.

I feel like I need to point something out:
This thread is about advertising your proboard, not 'how to get members' or 'how to keep members'. All advertising does is get your link out there, to get your board and its URL known to the masses of internet users. Advertising/Affiliating does NOT, in ANY way guarantee the arrival of members that will stay and participate. They serve their purpose - bringing potential members to your forum. It is up to you and your staff to give them something worth staying - a good layout, a good subject matter, threads to participate in.
So, to whomever said that affiliation doesn't work - that's not true. All affiliating does is get guests to view your site/bots to index your forum so it comes up on keyword searches.
Advertising and affiliation are not equivalent to getting members. All it does is give more places for your URL to be seen by potential members.

thats not it that has nothing to do with people not active on my board ..and your forum link has nothing to do with the discussion at hand. Please follow the rules or do not post. If you have a comment or question in regards to a Mods post then take it to the PM and leave it off the boards. Thank you.I feel like I need to point something out: This thread is about advertising your proboard, not 'how to get members' or 'how to keep members'. If you are having a graphics issue, such as wanting to request one, or want to discuss graphic programs, then you should direct your situation to the graphics board. If youa re wanting advice and suggestions for your forum, then you will want to place your forum up for rates in the GOAYB. This is more about discussion ones options and experiences with advertising a forum. Thank you.

* META TAGs - a lot of people will tell you that META TAGs are a waste of time, and that most major search engines no longer use them. However, smaller search engines do use them and they cannot hurt. I use META tags on my forum, and search my keywords and find my site, so META Tags do work. Below I will post an example of how a graphics forum may set up their META tags. This will go in the bottom of your headers: ___________________________________________________ I have been trying to figure this out but think I'm not putting Meta tags in correct area. Can you please explain exactly where to put Meta tags. Global? Main? Header? Footer? I opened a google account just so I could use webmaster tools but cant figure out how to verify I'm the owner of forum. So if you could tell me exactly where I should be set. Thankyou.

I have found that afflaits do work, if you can get them somewhere. That's the hard part.

I have gotten quite a few members through affiliating. Also I found that using Myspace to help promote my board also worked rather well. I just made a banner for my site and sent it to everyone on my friends list. the banner is a direct link to my board. I also used this same banner on the myspace bulletin board. I tried the same tactics with facebook but it did not work as well there. And lastly another great strategy I used was to become a member of each of my affiliates boards and post in those boards with my banner in my signature. You can make yourself an interesting thread asking your members how they found your page. Depending on their answers, you will learn what is working and what is not. With the strategies I posted here, I have gained 70 members in just three months of my board being open.

ok i have been having the hardest time getting people on my two sites on one of them i have 2 other member and my other one it has only one other member. can someone help me. PLZ!!! im begging for help. Well I'm not an expert, but like one board says is just getting it in a chain of people. Like you tell one person than that person tells another who tells another etc. But if you don't know anyone who does proboards, you could always just make an account on a website or go on a website you go on (preferably one with a lot of members), make an account and then ask for them to affiliate your site. Yet obviously people won't like someone to make an account on their site and just see someone advertise a site of there own... Thats what I did, I made an account on a site, but I still post on the site because it's a site that I like, and advertised it. Also you can advertise it here on proboards! There is so many ways. You can submit it to google also! I have learned so many ways to and I've only been on proboards for about 4 months. Hope that helps unless you have already been helped! But that is just how advertise my site. It just take time for people to discover your site. In the mean time, try to make your site look nicer, funner!!!

I really don't know if this works or not, but in my opinion, I think affiliating/advertising on a site when you are a member is better. Why? Because I've always thought that members have more...advantages. For example, you can advertise in your signature, you can probably bump and post in your advertising/affiliating threads, and it's better because the members on the forum you are advertising with actually know you. They might be your friends, so they'll more likely to click on a recomended forum by their buddy. Another point would be sister or brother sites. The admins of those forums highly recommend going to their sister/brother sites, right? I'm sure that members pay respect to the site owners, and because of that, they will go to the sister/brother site recommended by a respectful person. (Like the whole friendship thing)
Another good way is to make a banner or graphic, or phrases that catches the eye to bring more guests to your forum. Testimonials always work too. You can have quotes from the other members so the guests and read them and see how great your forum is.

I would worry about doing that because from experience, if I own and rpg and I'm a member of other rpgs, I tend to lose interest in the ones that aren't mine. I like all my focus to be in one place and not short change anyone else's rpg.
It's great if you can manage it but a person like me can only really be all in one place at one time.
