I just want to switch my category from Family to Community. I can't find any help to do that anywhere, and I can't PM any of the moderators because they haven't specifically asked me to. And it's not in the FAQ or anywhere else that I can find on this forum. I have to have someone do it for me in the admin area of proboards somewhere. So please, someone do it. I'm not posting my board publicly. Please let me PM you Mods. Thank you

I think that ravensbrook meant the category that you make when you first make your proboard... lifestyle, sport etc... Try the support board, I'm not sure if you can do that :S

Xat.com Is a chat box service in which all of their chat boxes are sorta connected. It is a great advertising and communication thing for a forum. Since we added our to our forum, we have gotten over 30 members through it alone, but that is out of 300 noobs how insist on spamming, which is the only downside to the whole deal.

Try the support board, I'm not sure if you can do that :S That's what I meant, yeah, but............... the support board isn't accepting any more new threads and there isn't one about that. I guess you can't make mistakes here and have them corrected. Thanks for the suggestion anyway, and thanks for replying.

Trust me, you can, I have done that on several occasions, but you don't realize how many support questions come in there, just wait a day or so and they will be accepting new support.

I've found several things have worked for US; not necessarily affiliates. In fact I didn't get an affiliate until earlier on this year', and only because the member asked to affiliate. Here's some things we've done:
Affiliates: As I said, I've only got one affiliate and they asked to link my site to their FaceBook group. I linked her group back of course; whether or not I've gotten more members out of it, I don't know, but I suppose it can't hurt to have an affiliate.
Banners and Buttons: In sites I'm a part of, I have linked banners or buttons in my signature and / or profile if possible; other times it's just links, but the majority of it is banners and buttons, and the more you spread it about the more it can get picked up in a Google Image search, which can help to attract members ((I had one recently confess that the current one in my signature turned up in image search and made her laugh, so she was intrigued to check out the site)). This is the main method of advertising I've used.
Sister Sites: Creating profiles on other sites dedicated to your forum is a good way to introduce your forum to the Internet. We have Bebo, FaceBook, GaiaOnline, LiveJournal and Myspace pages for my forum, all just as one big advertisement.
Word of Mouth: Funny thing about this, I don't actually do that much word of mouth advertising for US. My members have, though, and even people who aren't members have been spreading the word ... And late last year' we found out that many non-member randoms had approached the man of our attention and told him about the site, and he even started to visit US ... Obviously so, for when I first met him in January one of the first things he said to me was "Now, you're the one with the website, aren't you?" When I met him again September he confessed to dropping by now and again, so I really like how the word of mouth method has worked out.
YouTube: We actually have a couple of YouTube advertisements and they've attracted a bit of attention; they may not be "the next big vid" on YouTube they're working nevertheless.
Of course, it's also helped US by being one of the few still active forums focused on him; especially since he's been doing the 2-year' Australasian tour of The Phantom of the Opera since 07, getting himself more into the spotlight and getting people curious to know more about him ((and why wouldn't they want to, he's kind, witty, charming and just as wicked; and not Australia's Living National Treasure for nothing! XD)).

Whoa I should try gaiaonline and myspace. I know one forum did that but eh I doubt they would get members but then again they got some. I should think of telling my friend that to help her try to get members and try gaia. I wonder would that work too? I tried to put my site on yahoo and no luck. Even (don't laugh) chatrooms.

Wait, so don't advertise your site on google and yahoo, etc? What works for some may not work for others. Personally I found Yahoo & Google helpful, but not word of mouth advertising. If the bots & meta tags pick up words from your forum, the more they find, the higher you'll probably rank. ;D I've done a lot of advertising over the years & I've never paid for it yet. You can still do so much & not pay a single penny. If you do pay however for advertising, go for a reputable company, & make sure you're not being ripped off

All I can think is some sort of slide show type thing that shows the different things offered.
