For example; It is always a good idea to make sure the width of the board, and the width of the banner match. There are some exceptions to this rule, but for the most part, this usually looks best.what is the ideal size for a forum header banner? thanks ing x tvwforum.proboards92.com/index.cgi

How far is too far, though? I have 4 skins, and quite a few personalizing codes. This sometimes makes the page load rather slowly... Does this drive away potential members? hey how do u customize gradients....... You can find the code for gradients here, missorchidinthehut. A helpful tip is to use Ctrl+f once there. It's been very helpful to me.

How far is too far, though? I have 4 skins, and quite a few personalizing codes. This sometimes makes the page load rather slowly... Does this drive away potential members? No, not quite, although it would help, you can remind them that they can turn off images or turn off javascript. Also, another thing you should watch out for is when the page works as if you are on a dial-up connection while using DSL. That's when it is too far. Too far is also when you put a money hack in when you really don't need it, or you have an RPG code in a forum that does not have anything to do with RPG. Four skins is not too far, for when someone uses another skin, the other three skins should not really affect them at all. So, as yes, it could drive away some members, it will not drive away most/some (depends on how slow it is) of them. You could also try rearranging codes. Like moving one code up and another code further down, that actually could make a big difference, but use some logic before deciding which ones to move. Anything that might screw with another code needs to go further up, I believe.

Well Anything That Slows Your Forum Up is Always a Risk Of Loosing potential Members , Guess it Depends on the Load time it cuts , I Know for a Fact That sometimes you'll get a Message ..a Script on this page is taking too long to respond , Should we wait or cancel the Script . That can Drive People away. QC

that you can Customize virtually everything of a proboard is a good thing, i rather have a lot of options that i dont use then no options to do them things at all.. the fact that you can add coding into the headers and footers is a great option that gives Proboards a edge on its nearest competition, and is without a doubt one of its greatest benefits as a proboard user..
but i have seen a lot of great looking boards who went down the tube by over modding them, too much of anything isnt good and that goes for adding codes and images to your forum as well adding too many fancy codes to your forum doesn't make it necessarily better the more codes you add to your headers and footers the more time it will need to load and then there is the problem of adding codes that conflict with each other creating all kinds of errors and keeping the mods of support board very busy (hehehe)
Also in the end it is not about adding fancy codes and great images to your forum which will result in a successfully forum, in the end your forum is as good as the quality of its topics and posts...

I think some customizing is neccesary. Just as long as you don't overdue it. As I said many times, the more codes and custome stuff you add, the slower your forum will load.

i also think that customizing your forum is necessary as it makes your forum look more original.

This thread has gotten way off track from a discussion. This is not a support board for "How tos" If you are wanting to know how to do something use the support boards....PLease make sure you read the rules of this board. Post soemthing relevant to the topic and at least four sentences so that the next person might have something to respond to. Thank you.

sorry...am new in this.. ;D.. how do I choose the Style of forum? I want to change the width and high of the forum peace Read the Rules before posting. You should ask questions in the Support Forum--- I find the simplicity is always the answer to a good board. I always like to go onto a board and find that it loads almost instantly. It just seems like the admin has made it more proffesional. I think that with a simple banner to mark your board and not too many codes, but some that can prove effective in your board. For example, if you have lots of users, it might be a good idea to have a Report Post button active, that way users can report posts which are breaking the rules. You should try and stop yourself from adding codes that may look nice, but are not really the right thing for your board. For example if you have a News forum, having a glittery picture of a Tiger would not be the right choice. Simplicity is always the key.
