For me it is my sincerity at wanting to maintain my forum. Sincerity and interest are what keeps a forum living. Having a lot of members are just membership numbers. In active members do help a forum die. Though if you only have sincerity and "wanting" to maintain a forum, it won't go far. You'll end up being the only on there. Whilst the member numbers make the forums look for occupied and active - which pulls new members in. Oh, your interest is just in membership count. A forum maintained for the right reasons is a living forum.

I don't want to get into this discussion again.

Exactly, @silenced , a forum only truly dies when the admin has given up on it. Otherwise, there is still life. I sometimes take extended breaks, since nobody else is posting. But I always come back. I applaud you for understanding that sometimes a break is necessary, but that you always come back.
That's a very positive attitude.

Coming back from a break is quite rewarding! Unless you come back to an inactive board.

It takes time and dedication to garner members, shorewillow . It's not a quick or easy process. There is a lot of competition out there with other forums and social media.
Be sure to follow some of the great suggestions in your admin panel under Marketing ~ Promote your Forum.

I've worked so hard on making two forums and they are pretty dead I decorated them nice and I have only one person join Shorewillow: I also have put a lot of hard work into my forums. My being my only member does not mean that my forum is dead. I continue maintaining them. A forum can have members that just join without the intention of being active. The amount of members that are active do help keep a forum alive. There are an abundance of forums without active members. There are a lot of forums without members. You may read through my posts for more on what I said on this topic.

I have another reason why they die, lack of admin interest, lack of admin involvement, y pet hates, if i see that i wont hang around on a forum. Oh with members, without them you will have a very lonely board, seen that happen, it isn't the responsibility for the members to run and keep the forum active all the time

Yeah, generally when I watch a board die, it's because of admins scooting off and not being around to actively post, advertise and keep things updated. If they're not around, members instantly start to think the board is going down. That's how it feels to me, anyway.
