Honestly, I consider a troll anyone who comes onto the site with the intention to use it for what it isn't. Or the ones that come around to a dead site after it has died and post on the chat-box, doing whatever they came to break up whatever remains a site has. Also, anyone who finds that they are being funny about something that is very important or serious. You have to wonder, why do they bother?

I don't know really. Maybe to make themselves feel better? xD Maybe it's like the whole bullying theory. Kids that are bullied become a bully. Maybe it's just their way of taking it out on the world. XD Whatever it is it sucks.

I feel like it's a little difficult to stick a hard definition to, but I actually had an issue the other day where somebody mistook me for a troll XD I was on their site cbox and had my name as "Jae (guest)" and all I asked was "Hey, are face claims mandatory on here or are they just optional?" Needless to say, I was really confused when they asked if I was a troll. Since when is asking questions like that trolling?

I don't know. It seems like a lot of the time people just expect you to read the rules before you bother asking questions and I mean, yeah I get it, it would be nice if you did, but I don't have time to read the rules of every site I check out just because it vaguely appeal. I know I don't have a problem asking questions and try not to be a witch a about it.

Yeah most sites don't have rules about whether face claims are mandatory or not, they just direct you to where you can claim a celebrity or something. I'd completely understand if it was something really obvious like "herpderp is this a warriors site?" on a HP roleplay, but for the most part I feel like questions from guests aren't at all intended to be trolling.

Maybe it's just being defensive. I know that it happens a lot and they just expect you to know. I dunno. I've never had it happen to me cuz I prefer to answer the questions as quickly as possible. xD

I think a troll is anyone who is attention seeking, or just spamming the chat box with unnecessary things. I've had to deal with a troll or two over the years, and I think the best way to deal with them is just to ban them. Quick and simple.

I honestly prefer to give warnings if I end up having to deal with them. That way they know they had a chance to fix themself as well as the fact that way you don't seem like you are being a total jerk and you give them time to fix their attitude. If they choose to ignore the warnings though, then yes, I will ban them.

Trolls can be anyone. Someone who has no life and sometimes its someone who has a life and only uses the internet to make people miserable because in real life they can't get away with it. I have been a troll at times in a forum that allows it to happen (no set rules at all - its 'do what you want' type forum), and I only do it to amuse myself there. I haven't done it in years though. On other forums, I refrain from doing it because they generally don't allow it.
The bullying concept is similar to trolls. You'll find many internet trolls who bully people as well.

I define trolling as posting with the malicious intent to disrupt an online community. On my forum, I follow a 3 strikes and you're out system. First Offence-33% Warn Second Offence-67% Warn Third Offence-100% Warn and Ban
If they try to get around their ban, they're deleted and IP banned, since each user can only have 1 active account on my forum.

For me it's anyone who joins and tries to get the members (particularly long term ones) all riled up just for their own amusement. It's not cool and it's not enough to piss me off but it is annoying.

My opinion of forum trolls comes from my personal experience of having them around.
There was one guy who joined my board after being banned from another board in the game show community. I think the first time he posted something along the lines of "nine pricing games, three Showcases" was fine. He then purposely continued to do this every time there was a double overbid (mind you, we're talking about what happens on Price is Right).
Someone on the staff team clued me in on him being banned from the other site for doing the exact same thing.
So to make it go back to what I think the definition of a forum troll is: It's someone who purposely gets under the skin of fellow members by posting the same stupid garbage. They see a moment, and they take it. And they continue to do it, even after staff members have told them to quit doing this.
