This is a little image I made a week or two ago. It's purpose help beginners better understand where their category bars, bgwindow1's and 2', ect. are when designing their color scheme. I remember when I was new to ProBoards, and registered my first board, all of that confused me. It took me twice as long to develop some type of color scheme, because I'd have to change something, then do to my index page to see what changed.  Hopefully, this will make it a bit easier for beginners.  Addition: With the release of PBv4, Proboards.com has released a similar color chart. It can be found on all of your ProBoards in the admin area under modify skins, but I figured I'd post it here for those who have yet to register a ProBoard. I don't get it. I've been on message boards that have terrible colors together. Red and blue do not look good together. I've been on forums where I could barely read the text or see the links when I click on them. Yet they say their message board is ready for members. I usually ignore those kind of message boards.
You want to make sure the colors match and don't blinde your eyes. You don't want to use colors that seem too bright. Depending on the blue you're using, sometimes blue or red can come off as bright too.
I've also seen forums that use the same colors over and over. Black, gray, and white together are very popular colors. I've mostly seen black as the popular background color. It gets a little boring after a while. Be creativing with choosing the colors. Don't choose colors that everyone else uses.

We must stick to the rules. Well as you know Myke, according to my GOAYB thread which you rated. Arranging colours were in fact confusing as you probably guessed lol. That image however is WAY better than the one I looked at originally though. but I'll tell ya what is/was becoming annoying when doing colour schemes (or rather different skins) was the fact that, whatever coloured image that's installed via the headers/footers stays the same  which means if I had a bluish image username and I had like a large red background, it really wouldn't fit because blue and red are one of the primary colours that can't mix with each other to make good colours. |

I don't have much info. on colors, but I'll try to lend some useful information.
When making colors for your ProBoards, make sure the letters are a light color and the background is medium/dark and vise versa.
Do not use red text on a yellow background, do not use a white window 1 background with silver main text.
Just mix the colors to where they flow together, they should not crash together, but flow.
It'll look really smooth then. Make sure the text is readable and make sure all the other forum colors blend together. Don't use 10 different colors on your forum, unless it's a rainbow forum, that many colors are not needed. Use from 2-4 for the main forum colors and use good matching colors for staff/text colors.

You can also go the the Solidsnakedesigns to use its skin generators. Its absolute free and I love it. Its a crutch for beginners |

I was trying to teach someone else to customize their Proboard, it's surprising how quickly I had to think back to basics.
It's easy enough to tell people what to do & what not to do but it's common sense using some text colours.
I always make mine the same, people can't always see the hyperlinks but just use lighter shades & test them.

xkamelx, that was a lot easier for me to understand, it may be that i stared at the one proboards gave us until i got it, but i still understand it. It is also well organized. I am not good at making skins though, so i just do the best i can with black and other dark colors, that is the best i can do.

You know, myke, this one was easier to understand, I probably would have gotten this one immediatly, but like dylan said, i read over and over the one proboards offers and it finally made since to me, thanx for entering it in, though. I personakky suggest that, if you have a forum or do any other typr of web design, that you print out a list of color names and the correspondind hexidecimal codes. I keep mine right by my computer, and once you've goten to know most of the colors, you can ifnd the right code in a snap. It's really useful.

very good idea of making that chart! I hope it will be of help to all of the members who want to build up a new forum. I remember what a hard time I had when doing my first colour scheme. I had no idea what all those empty spaces were for, so I pretty much put a different colour in each one of them, so when I finished and viewed the result I was shocked to see that it looked like a rainbow.
Throughout time I found that sites providing hex colour codes are very helpful as well when you want to build up some decent colours, as the ones you find in your skin customization area can be too exagerated ( I mean they are always too bright, and always too extreme, the shades aren't too satisfying).

Exactly- that's why, on my website, or wherever else I change colours (I've still got the grey theme for my forums, and like it ;D ) I usually stick with greys, navys, blues, beiges, turquoise- they're calming, aren't boring, and all blend easily together.
