You want to make sure the colors match and don't blinde your eyes. You don't want to use colors that seem too bright. Depending on the blue you're using, sometimes blue or red can come off as bright too.

I've also seen forums that use the same colors over and over. Black, gray, and white together are very popular colors. I've mostly seen black as the popular background color. It gets a little boring after a while. Be creativing with choosing the colors. Don't choose colors that everyone else uses.

I understand that. When I make a new skin, I test it out 1st. If I don't like it, I change it so I do like it and it's diffenert fron the old skin. ;D

When I was new to ProBoards, they were very confusing in my opinion. I couldn't get a color scheme for a long time. I gave up..after that I came back to it and tried it again, seeing that they now had a chart up for begginers..and it did help me. But my first color scheme was..not to good..about like the other on Support..

Color scheme is an important aspect of a forum..right down to the link colors..sometimes they are very confusing..and you can barely read the text. It hurts your eyes, whatever the excuse is, sometimes the color scheme is what drives important members away from the set board and or forum..

if I dont really like a skin myself, I wont put it on my board.

I see boards with bright yellow on black, or something equally headache causing...
the creator prolly doesnt even like it, so why would you change it from the default to begin with?
I didnt modify my skin till I knew how to, 'n just stuck to plain and simple colorschemes untill I got the hang of it.
an new 'view color example' thing would definatly be a big improvement..dont think I ever actively used it...and it should display the whole front page, rather than part of it..plus maybe a few variations of examples, and which hexx colors are used there. say a red, green, blue and orange basic skin example, with hexx color listings, would give noobs way more room to play with.

Example of easy to use Flash Player based Hex Color Code Chart & Generator:

It will work even with restrictive browser settings (like overriding colors). The hexadecimal codes can be entered too, just click anywhere outside of data entry fields or palette (<Return> does not validate the entry).

(I'm not connected to that website, I just use the color tool.)

Edited to add: The color selection tool of the skin menu is not always displayed if browser settings are restrictive. Not a big issue though as I only use very few colors. Too many different colors are confusing.

Iam a complete beginner and have managed to mess up the default skin on the forum!!!

1st thing how do i reset it back to default

2nd thing - how do i get a template skin on to the forum

idiot proof replies would be really appreciated
