How do u even make a new board!!? I am new and do ont get any of this stuff you can get a forum by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page, if you have support questions, you will need to direct that to the support board. I recommend reading the rules, FAQs, guidelines of each o f the boards.....and do one thing at a time, this isn't really something that is done here on the discussion board.

I would personally promote the use of sub-boards. They do help in the organization of the board, depending on how you use them. For my sites, I have a general category with a couple of different general boards, one being a board named "Other stuff" Here I have a general music, general movies, general TV, general movies(Which I plan on making a subsubboard when PBV5 comes out), and a general fanficts board, which really improves the board organazation and lowers the time for the page to load.
I would not putting random sub-boards in boards, something like this.
--Spam ---anime/manga
That would be just show that the admin doesn't care about their board and the board does not need to be visited.

Sub-boards can be useful. They are on my board but just like categories you can have too many. I personally think it's good to hide some of the basic boards like the rules and such then put links to them in your welcome table. It saves space for other boards and makes your site look nicer.

From another perspective, sub-boards used wisely can reduce loading time and speed up codes.
for example on the main page if you keep say 20 boards, if you can generalize a few of the board and inside them keep sub-boards you maybe able to cut the amount of boards to say 10 on the main page and the others inside as sub-boards. this will mean the main page will be shorter so it loads faster, and this means codes like category splitters and main page mods will need to loop through a fewer boards on the main page so it loads faster.
the disadvantage of sub-boards is probbly that the guests who take a first glance my not find the topics they are interested in , in a glance. but if you use sub-boards well, the members and the new members will be more satisfied with speed, and maybe , just maybe guests will feel the site is more professional with its loading speed and coding and may stick around a little longer...

I always use sub-boards to seperate things that should be filed together, but aren't important/distinct enough to warrant a full board in a category. Seperate RP boards and such usually fall under this, as well as different media types in entertainment.

I have an RPG, and in the type of board Im using, I find them quite important.
However, all boards are different and it usually depends on what ytype of board it is, how many members it currently has (if it doesn't have a lot, it won't need too many boards) and whether the topic is discussed enough to deserve a sub-board. But as said above, it also depends on whether the admin would want it
Me? I'd give them a yes

I think that sub-boards do come in handy but the use of too many sub-boards just makes the board look and feel cluttered. I use sub-boards for fanclubs (with passwords and only certain members can join), and help and test features.
So I would give sub-boards a thumbs up.

There are some people who do overdo the sub boards, it looks like they have like 4 or 5 boards, but when you click, it will be filled with random sub boards that don't even belong in the category. Believe me, I have seen it, and not just on a proboards forum.
When making a sub board, it is always wise to think about what type of sub board you are creating and what board it should go in. As I said before, you shouldn't have a sub board discussion on anime/manga within a spam board. Try to make sure that it has some sort of resemblence to what the big board is about.

I personally like sub-bords, I think it makes organisation easier, for instance in boards like RPGs. But if you have, say a General board, you could put a sub-board for Intro's, Rules etc and then have threads for other things (?)
But I personally like sub-boards as I do think it makes the board look nicer and neater, if used properly. If they are used in every board and are used loads then it just makes the board look cluttered, but on some occassions it looks fine.

to me, sub boards are good if you dont have to many. I have 6 sub boards, because some of the boards fit in perfectly. If you have to many, then your doomed. Members will indeed get frustrated and would have to find the topics to much. So it can go either way.

I feel for some boards benefit sub-boards asit helps with space wise on main boards. on many boards like mine have a natural sub boards where as others there is no need for them the person (admin) of the board should use some common sense and think"do i need a sub board?"

I think enchant is a bit confused anyways, yeah, when used properly subboards are an addition to the site. they shouldnt be used overmuch though, and the descriptions should be clear. I cant say I'm a great fan of the proboard subboard system though, subboards tend to get less visited then even normal threads, and they confuse people. using subboard as a subcatagory works splendid though, just disable posting in a board 'n insert a few subboards, 'n it'll be a subcatagory. I use that for two boards, broad subjects, but not all should be seperate boards.
