I don't like music on forums, websites or anything, whether they match the theme or not. If theres an embeded player that does not start songs automatically, it'd be ok. Not many people opt for the non-background music option though...

well i dont mind having music on a proboards as long as theres an off button...like on my proboard i made sure that they had off buttons so that it wouldnt bug the members and they love it..sometimes they argue which one is better lol(we have 3 Jukeboxes)...but in general....i say go for it as long as you add in the off button...

I don't really see the point of music, it is really just a waste of time. There are some people who don't like music on a site, and sometimes, it is music people don't like. You can get a lot more people to join your site if you don 't have music.
Other reasons 1. Someone who doesn't like music 2. someone listening to music already 3. I bet it really slows down the web page, too.

Possible solution? I use Radio blog It allows you to find any song (already hosted) and embed a little flash player on your page. I've put 2 songs on my the top of my music board only, to test it out, it seems to be going great for now. Neither of the songs start automatically and you can play and pause them whenever you like. You can also change the colours of the flashplayer, which is an added bonus. All anyone needs to do is have flash installed, then they can play the songs.

I absolutely despise having to visit a website if it has music playing. Having music on a website is imo more or less the biggest definite nos for web design. I hate it when I'm busy listening to my own music which I actually like and it suddenly getting interrupted by a poor quality theme tune that slows down the loading of the page and sometimes even my computer and almost invariably I will instantly close the offending website. Some of them don't even have a stop button so that you can turn off the music if you want which really makes me angry. Sometimes I can just about deal with if it is low level, soft music that has a very obvious pause button that I can see the moment the page loads or preferably I can choose before the music starts whether I want it or not i.e. it's on pause before the page fully loads so that I can decide if I want it or not.

is there anyway to put a media player on the board?
i am new at this, so pardon my newbie question, i don't want the music to play over the whole site, but i wouldn't mind being able to post a song, in a thread without having to turn it into a video and post it on youtube...lol

Well, my opinion is that it depends what type of forum it is. If it is a forum about a band or music in general, then why not? For something like... a Naruto or Kingdom Hearts role play forum it would be a bad idea, because people have different tastes in music and it may put some people off from joining the site. For a Harry Potter forum it might be ok to play a soft song from one of the movies in the background. It would also be a good idea to get opinions from your members. You don't want to play music if your members don't want it. A reason not to have music is because it will slow down the page, and I don't like being on slow forums. It puts people off.

Music... I love music.. nearly any kind of music. We are a music forum so we could add music to our board, but 1. it takes ages to load for members with slower connections and 2. nearly every song has a copyright. So i did not add music. But i will talk to my members, ask them if they would like music or not. I am a dj and can create my own music which has only a copyright by me ;D We would add some kind of electronic or trancy music i think. nothing with too many beats... So i will tell you about (my) our decision soon.

I personally don't like music on boards as it takes a long time to upload the page/board and if you are listening to music already (whether it be Youtube, stereo, media player etc) it would interfere.

MusicDo you think forum admins should add music to their forum? If they do, should they make sure the music matches the forum theme (ie; not using Metallica on a Harry Potter forum)? Do you feel often members finds music annoying, or inconvenient for people with slower connections as it will take longer for the forum to completely load? What are your views on music? Debate. I don't mind music on a forum, as long as it is possible to stop the music playing. I have a friend who has a forum, and he's set background music to become part of a theme. The music was really annoying, and had nothing to do with the theme of the forum. Even more annoying was the fact that the forum's theme wasn't available without the music. It was actually a nice theme apart from the music.

I prefer music that is related to the forum. And to answer copyrighting issues, there is plenty of uncopyrighted music on the net. The only con for me is alowing computers down, so you probally should try to keep the music less than 1 minute long. As for making your own music, newer forum makers might not know where to go to do so. Same with making pics.
