I really wanna get music on my Proboards, can anyone help? I definetly think music should be an option. Plain and simple, if you don't want music on your forums, then don't get it. Is there any way I can get music? I really wanna know, bad. My Flash Fetish Playlists and even Project Playlists I consider to be the best bet. You can have them set where they don't automatically turn themselves on (which is great for users with dial-up, or crappy internet providers/computers) And with Project Playlist, they can open it up to a new window, and surf your site while listening to the playlist. I think that they're great for forums. Sometimes, music inspires people.

It varies on what the site is on
I like theme music for sites, as in for movies
I'm currently building a Star Wars RPG Forum and am trying to get music on it, but a code without music reloading everytime you go onto a new page.
I think (don't know if this is possible) that a splash page with music is good
E.g. - The Starwars logo with the main theme running E.g. - The Harry Potter logo with the main theme running
(Modied bit under this text)
By doing this i feel that the forum welcomes you more and also make you want to go onto it, it sets you in the mood as such.
I LIKE IT!

If you're going to put music on your forum, it should have to do with the topic and not contain extremely bad swear words. If anything, you should use a song that is soft and NOT fuzzy. Personally, I don't recommend adding music, as it can be very annoying sometimes and scare guests away. I admit I love Linkin Park, but his songs can be very startling, with their irregular drum beats and guitar riffs. His voice is also VERY distinct. Ehehe... Music that does not have any lyrics is good.

I like music on proboards. I am allways rleplaying, and it helps me think. I do think that you should be able to turn it off, as for people who have slow internet, it takes for ever to load.

But if it helps you think, wouldn't it better to listen to your own music which you can control? I Don't think Music should be on any sites, whether you can control them or not. If I want to listen to music I will listen to a CD or turn on the radio.

I don't enjoy hearing music on forums. I find it very distracting. Athough my forum deals with a music group, it's never even been discussed. As mentioned above, dial-up users would be waiting for that song to load, and may just leave. If you want your members to hear music, let them choose.

Why not just have music on the page, but not playing when you load the forum? I remember a site that did this, and if I didn't want to hear the music I didn't have to do anything. If I did, I just hit the play button, it was always easy to find. Its at this place here.It works out great, so why not do that? I don't understand why more sites just don't do that instead. I guess the coding is a bit difficult to do, if you want the music to play without reloading, as Ryu said.

On one of my websites I have music. It has no lyrics, and it sounds cool. About half of them like it and half of them don't like it. I actually like the music. I set it to only play on the home page because it can get distracting when you are trying to write something. I just tell the members who don't like it to turn their sound off. Making it play only on the home page was kind of a comprimise. It used to play on every page and it did get a little annoying. I've never tried going to RP site that had music while using a dial-up connection, so I don't know how much it is slowed down.

I like having music that I can control. I used project playlist for my HP site, and everyone loved it. It was a mix of instrumental, and fan music. It was easy enough to turn off when one didn't want it, so that way it didn't intrude on anyone who didn't enjoy the really odd songs I found. On sites where the music doesn't exactly relate (one comes to mind that dealt with animals, and it had death metal music) I was immediately offended and turned off to the site. I think if you're going to pick to have music, it should only be something to enhance the site, not to be a front and center part. Kind of the way that soundtracks in movies don't overwhelm the audience, they just enhance the mood the director is trying to portray.

Personally I don't like the idea of music playing when you first enter a site. It can be quite embarrassing if your at a computer in a quiet crowded room and there are people all around. All of a sudden, some strange sounding music starts coming out of your speakers and you suddenly click on mute as everyone turns their head to look at you.
Trust me it's happened.

I find it very annoying when a site has an automatic starting music thing for my I-tunes is usually open when browsing the internet and other music interferes with mine and I always have to stop, find the music, and press pause or stop on every page. xP
However, I think if they have one that doesn't start automatically it is cool 'cause then members can choose if they want to listen to it and it doesn't interfere with slower connections as much.

i'd go with no because yeah it's annoying if you go onto the page all the time. at least put like a music player, but don't put it on auto start thing... i have a music player playlist on my site, and it's not on auto start. i know a lot of people like the girls won't enjoy like metal and all of those sheets, and rather play something from their iTunes. so... i'm against it...

It depends on wether: a. you can pause it b. It fits the forum c. It's not annoying
A makes everything better, B isn't required but a good thing, and C is very important.
As long as A and C are true, I think it's fine.

Personally I prefer leaving the choice of music to the members. I mean they got their own playlist on their computers, I don't see the point of proposing them even more music, especially if you can't pause it, since it would be an annoyance. (and to always re-pause it when refreshing!) To share a song there is always youtube But there is nice proposition of website to host songs in this topic, I like that!
