I really wanna get music on my Proboards, can anyone help? I definetly think music should be an option. Plain and simple, if you don't want music on your forums, then don't get it. Is there any way I can get music? I really wanna know, bad.

Ok, it's official. Forum music stinks. I previously added forum music to my site and soon deleted it all. It seemed like the music would become all choppy and stuff and the different boards were taking really long to load. I mean, I like music and all, but not to an extent where it'll slow down and screw up the site. All my members noticed the lack of speed as well. Finally I just deleted it. If people want music, they'll use their own source such as Windows Media or iTunes.

I personally don't care for it, as it makes the forums load slower. If you can somehow make it so that the site doesn't load slower, it needs to not be on autoplay, because I dislike a good portion of the music that others like.

If you can somehow make it so that the site doesn't load slower, it needs to not be on autoplay, because I dislike a good portion of the music that others like. That's another thing that annoyed me was the autoplay. It's like everytime i'd move threads or click home, the song would re-start. I tried adding a different song to each board which wasn't the greatest idea. That just made everything load double as slow. I'm actually thinking about deleting my site and starting over. The one thing I wish I could do regarding music would be the "add music to your profile" code. I have the code and the music link box shows but whenever I try adding the link, it still never works. I'm not sure if it's the link or the code is fake.

I usually dont like to stay on site's with music. Part of the reason because usually it isn't the kind of music I'm into, and secondly, some admins don't even bother to put an off switch!

I hate having music on a forum. Not only is hardly ever anything I would ever listen to but also because when it first starts it blasts away and you have to lower your volume or mute it quickly before someone gets upset about it. I never really saw a point to have music on a forum. I mean if someone wants to listen to music they can turn on a CD, go to youtube or any other music site, or even listen to music videos on TV. They don't need to get the music from your forum.

Also, not all computers will support music on webpages, and the coding could cause issues with those members.

I say that music is OK to use on a forum, but only by choice. For example, a link at the top saying MUSIC or something. Because it can get really annoying to people who's computers freeze up everytime a page is loaded.

No, you shouldn't have music on a forum. I always listen to my iTUNES when posting (in fact, I am now) I live in my own music bubble and not fond of alot of music some people listen to. Putting that aside, I wouldnt stay long on a site with music I dont like. Besides, it would take away from my iTUNES.
But yes, if the admin must have music on their form- they should let it have a choice for the members to listen to it. Nobody has the same taste in music.

MusicDo you think forum admins should add music to their forum? If they do, should they make sure the music matches the forum theme (ie; not using Metallica on a Harry Potter forum)? Do you feel often members finds music annoying, or inconvenient for people with slower connections as it will take longer for the forum to completely load? What are your views on music? Debate. You could put stuff like Metallica on a Harry Potter forum, just 'cos someone likes Harry Potter, it doesn't automatically mean they dislike all bands such as Metallica. For the genre(s) of music you play, it all depends on what kind of genres your members like. It's - in my opinion - always best to ask the members via a topic or poll if they would like a music player, and other stuff similar, and get suggestions on what kind of music they want.. Or, just make a seperate board or subboard for the player then make a "request" thread in it or something similar.. Personally though, I prefer music to stay on my PC, playing in Windows Media Player rather than on a forum, especially if you go to a forum that has the music play automatically, there is nothing worse.. Purely 'cos I am listening to music of my own ALL the time, and then if another song starts playing, it interupts my song that might be at a great bit... All in all though, it's not just up to the Admin or staff of the forum, it's up to the whole community, or at least the active ones. Get their input on the matter, see if they want a music player and get other suggestions from them concerning it.

I think that before you add music at your forum it's better if you make a poll first to see if the members like the idea. If you see that their reaction is positive you can start a thread asking them what songs or what kind of music they would like.
And of course the music mast be according to the site's theme, I mean you can't have a Harry Potter site and add Britney Spears!
I personally like it when a sit has a music player with a playlist or something. That way you can choose which song you want to listen or if you don't like it just press stop... I believe that it's the best solution

I personally don't see a real need to have music on forums unless possibly the theme of the board is a singer or a band then perhaps it would make more sense, but even then I think it's not needed. If I want to listen to music I turn to the media player on my computer to help me out with that. When I'm online I don't want music to load when a webpage or message board loads. Depending on where you are having music and different sounds playing can be rather embarrasing.
Plus from the perspective of one of those that has a slower (dial-up) connection anything that slows the page load time down too much can deter members from using such a board or page. So in reality you may loose potential members just because they loose patience with the loading time of your board.

My opinion...
I think you shouldn't have music on your forum as it may not be people's taste. Therefore guests visiting the forum may click out straight away.
How it can work...
I think the only way music can work is if you don't have it on loop. I find it so annoying when you listen to the same piece of music again and again.
Tips
Maybe use a well known piece of music with good ratings? Therefore more people are going to like it..
Have a poll to decide what piece of music to have on your site..
Make the music fit your site..
