Professional Website Design

Hey guys,

I am trying to do a favor for a friend of mine. He runs his own business and is trying to kick up his own website, however, the layout that was given to him by the pro is horrible... beyond horrible.

I figured I could do a skin for it, but then I remembered that it's not simple proboards coding; it's that wonderful blend of java and HTML, the complex stuff that I really don't know how to code well.

The look of the website is going to be very simple; not basic white and black, but a cozy, warm, "comfortable" theme.

I am curious if anyone could lend me a helping hand with some of this, aka, help me figure out what kind of coding I need and how my images are going to correspond with it.

I don't want it to be cheesy like most of the small business websites, but smooth and professional. His business is really, really awesome and he deserves to have better than the single page, poorly flashed website he currently has.

If the coding is simple enough, and wouldn't take more than a month, I could probably do it myself from tutorials and such, but since I don't have much time and I know there are coding geniuses here at support, I am hoping someone can at least help set me in the right direction.

You should be able to find tutorials online for it as well.

I have noticed that many "Professional" Web designers are just horrid. My friends own a tattoo shop and had gotten prices from several designers, most of the designers would not even show them a sample of the site that they would design for them!
A friend of mine mentioned to them that I do web design. So they asked me if I was interested. I spent a couple of days making 3 different sample sites. When I showed them my sample sites they were really impressed. "This is 100 times better than the sample sites we were shown by the other designers." They then offered to pay me what the most expensive quote they were given was! (I was going to ask for 1/2 that)

Well it has been several years, and they pay me to do updates. They even stated that they would rather the site go untouched than to hire someone else to do the site.

The details are pretty simple. They run a day spa and need their website to reflect the quality of their treatments, give information on the different types of treatments as well as prices, and contact information. They are relatively new so all their money goes into the upkeep of their building and insurances, and they are being gouged for what they did "get". I want to give them something quality without them paying through the nose... why? Because when my massage therapist suffers, I suffer!

Their website is already up, but you guys can see for yourself why they need a different look: www.sheltondayspa.com ... I mean, I've seen Harry Potter RPG's skinned better than that!

Anyway, I would love all the help I can get. I will definitely sit down and look at that site, and hopefully get something going for them that reflect their establishment.

Well, I was told that I need a design for the website before I ask for coding, so I am working on the images so it'll be easy to design the coding around.



I would love as much help with the coding as possible. I know how to do some basic stuff, but not the hard-core coding.
