I was just putting a computer together and I'm having a bit of trouble. I'm having a hard time finding anything in Google and figured I'd ask here.
Right now, all that is in the case is mobo, cpu, ram, psu, and hdd.
When I press the power button, the computer powers on, the fans spin, the power light turns on. I don't get a post, the computer runs for about seven seconds, then powers off. It stays off for about four seconds then does the same thing again.
What does it sound like?

Something not connected correctly to the Motherboard.... Check the manual?

Sounds like something is not connected properly, or the jumpers are off... or something of that nature. Could be anything.
It could also be a bad power supply.

No beeps? None. At all. Something not connected correctly to the Motherboard.... Check the manual? I've been looking through the manual and can't find anything that I've missed. I'll check again, though.

Press everything firmly and make sure there aren't any breaks in the wires.

What's the MOBO that you're using ... And which fans spin? Could be the PSU one, or the one on the CPU!

GIGABYTE GA-G41M-ES2L LGA 775 Intel G41 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
The fan on the PSU, the fan over the CPU, and the fan on the case all spin.

Either it is a bad psu, ram overheating, or cpu overheating.
Nothing else matters in the system.
All you need to POST a computer is a psu, mobo, cpu, and ram. So it has to be one of those.
I'd suggest jumpstarting your psu to test that out.
Then regrease your cpu fan.
Also make sure your psu has enough AMPs to run your mobo and cpu, wattage doesn't matter, amps is significantly more important. Generally you want about 15-40 amps on the +12v lines and around 20-40 on the +5v lines and +3.3v lines.

I don't know what was causing the initial issue with no post. I may have had something done wrong - but now I'm having a slightly different issue.
I took the psu out and tried with a different one to see if it might be the issue. I got a post error, 9 beeps. I took that psu out and put the other one I had back in. I got the 9 beeps again. Now with either psu, I get nine beeps. According the manual "1 long, 9 short" is "BIOS ROM error" but I'm not getting the 1 long beep. "Continuous short beeps" means "Power error" but I tried with 2 different PSUs and got the same issue. Also, both PSUs work in a different computer. Now, if I'm wrong and these are long beeps, then "Continuous long beeps" means "Graphics card not inserted properly" but that doesn't make any sense because I haven't even installed the video card yet. Also, as far as the continuous beeps thing goes, I don't know what they mean by "continuous," but it beeps nine times, then pauses, and beeps nine times again.

It has a question in it, as well as mentions a trouble shooting guide for your motherboard...

Sorry, I did see your post. I tried the troubleshooting steps, but forgot to answer the questions. That is the motherboard There are two power cords going into the mobo. The hdd is sata I have a cd-rom but it's not yet installed. I had it in before, but it was having the same issue as it is now. It's IDE The memory installed is supported, yes. -------------- I was talking to a buddy of mine. He told me to remove the CMOS battery and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. I put it back in after that time and tried turning the computer on. Now it starts, but then turns off after about 5 seconds, then it starts again. It does this repeatedly. I think I'm going to call Newegg now.
