Hey, I just recently got Photoshop, but I seem unable to make anything like what other people are making. I realize I am new, but I was wondering if that is what most people use or if they use something else.

Most people use Photoshop, as far as I know. I use Photoshop and I absolutely love it! Get started by doing some google search on simple tutorials.

not to mention deviantart: deviantart.comto add, don't get discouraged if you don't start making stuff that looks like other peoples' right away. even with tutorials, getting the hang of making graphics takes time, and is not an instant process. be sure to start with beginner tutorials -ones that have explanations of the tools in photoshop- before moving on to the ones that "look cool" because they generally no longer explain what tool does what; they presume you'd know already. the best way to get better, aside from tutorials, is to just play with PS on your own. See what each tool does, and what effects you can get. Just a tip though, until you're more experienced, try to avoid bevels, drop shadow, etc. =] A lot of new designers get excited about those effects, and tend to overuse them or use them improperly.
