Okay, so I'm really bad at skins/codes/colour coding but I made my first skin today killer-in-me.proboards.com/index.cgiI'm not too sure on the red bits around the sidebars :/ What do you think? Is it messing up the stripes or...?

I do love your colour scheme, its nice and soft, but still pops enough. The red in the side bar is a little bright for the rest of the colours, you could try using the red colour that creates the bar in your banner. Maybe move the banner to below the advertisement. Over all, very nice ^_^ I like softer skins rather then punches of bright colours

First, before I forget, I'm getting scrolling on the bottom of my screen because your forum and sidetables are too wide and I think it is because you are missing the </script> tag to your header part of the border-around-the-forum code. You'll want to add that.
I think the red in the side tables needs to be darker like it is in your banner. Something like #511428. Also you need to bring that red into the forum part so it ties the side tables and banner in. Maybe changing the category background to that red and turn the gradients on and you may have a cool affect. If you don't want to change the category colors then at least have the cat names in red or the board titles but the red needs to be a bit darker like #471123 or #3b101e so it'll look like it matches the red in the banner.
Another alternative to bringing that red into the forum would be to make some on/off icons with that color.
You may also want to consider bringing in that pretty greenish(in your background) which is something like #ced7c3 into the forum body as well.
For your first site, I'd say you did a pretty darn good job. I think you picked some really pretty colors that are very easy on the eyes. They just need adjusting a tiny bit and kind of pulling all the colors together.

Thanks. I've had a go at what you've both suggested, but when I insert the </script> tag to my header part of the border-around-the-forum code, a little box with a red X comes up just below the banner and ads :/ Is there another code that's interfering with it?

no, that x means an image is missing. ;] you've got the "border around forum using images" code in your headers/footers. if you don't intend to use it (as you don't have any image URLs specified) there isn't much point in keeping it. If you want to use it but would rather have solid colours, use the "border around forum using gradients" version of the same code -- it should be in the same post as where you got this version.
