First Web Design

This is my first complete web design, and I've never considered or even now consider myself by any means a designer. I've been tinkering with it all day and its not much at all but I'd like some pointers as I'd like to atleast have some sort of designer sense.

That wasn't nearly as terrible as I was expecting it to be. When I hear "my first graphic design", I usually picture bright colors and scary images.
Really, it looks fine, but either you should put green elsewhere on the site or change the color of those arrows. Also, you might want some sort of eye-catching image or people might just mark it off as boring. Maybe add something to the background. Also, the gray looks fine as is, but ti would look much cooler if you possibly made the borders a bit thinner or gave the gray areas a 3D look.
All in all, it's not terrible but it is very plain.

As a layout, it's good - well set out, well spaced (though I think you need to put more text in the Welcome box). Menus work I think, it's generally a good first one.

The problem I have with this is the actual design - I think the blue background works fine with the grey, but it's not quite wide enough (though I do have a 1440x700 resolution). Not sure if the grey is too dark; possibly, but it's not a biggy. The corners do need properly rounding though, and possibly try something a little closer to the grey you use on the content area background for the stroke?

The logo is my big problem here - doesn't seem like enough thought has gone into it. It's really important to get that right, since it's what keeps people in - and I think that text font with stroke doesn't cut it. I'm not overly familiar with logos of this type, so do some work on it - but it doesn't seem professional enough for this type of website.

I like the way its spaced out, I just think that the banner doesn't really fit in with the design Make something that goes with the colours

You've got the basics right. Minimalistic design, compact stuff and no weird colors. You could have done better with the background though, the blue kind of sticks out.

Work on the graphics some more.
