The State if the PB Design Community

Well this is saddening to read,since i have found myself back here for the time being i will try to fill out a request or two.

2005 was indeed the best year ever for design board i must agree, i use to run one that got a few thousand posts and 700+ members but died and was one of the first as i couldnt keep up with the coding, or do any at all lol. With work and family life starting you just never get time to dedicate yourself to you Proboard forum anymore. In 2005 i was at school and when i was at home is was all about the forum but when you got to work long hours the last thing you want to do is fill out loads of requests, or keep order lol.

I used to be a very active graphics designer/poster I'm not anymore cause graphic forums are so freaking boring now and I think thats what most older designs think, when we all started at like 13 it was fun and blah blah blah but now its just the same shiz. I'm not active on one graphics forum anymore, I'm over them hense why I use Deviant Art whenever (rarely) I make something however my boredess has definitely effected my designing skills....they're crap but yah thats my two cents.

Im active on a graphics forum outside of PB (on the SMF system, which isnt auto-hosted like PB is)

But im also active on a PB art forum, and Themesource

I miss SSD. It was awesome. Too bad not enough of the new graphic artists took interest in it and decided to run their own forums.

SSD always has been the saving grace of PB.

Very very true! Its more about competition now, Im over it and was over it a long time ago

I just think there are far too many people demanding something to be designed rather then learning to do it themselves. Now, I mean, not everyone has an interest in it but I think for most people, it would help to learn it. I'm trying my best to learn how to design images and the like. I've come out with a bit of images that I have done but it's all really newbie.

But it could also be the fact that people that do the designing are just no longer interested or they get busy with real life.

I joined the PB community back in 2003 and SSD back when it was in it's v2 theme (anyone else remember Lans Tartare, LightingFX, Jester, Eternity, etc?).

SSD will always be my first true love. It's the reason why I started graphic design at all. It was a hobby back then that helped shape my decision to pursue it as a career. I think for most designers (then and now) it's the same story. I've always considered Proboards as a great first step in learning the elements of web design. It's only logical to move on if you want to learn more.

I do miss SSD though, and wish it was still around.

Anyway, as for the topic of "what happened to the PB Design Community"... well, we all grew up. I have better things to do than design graphics for internet forums.

Also, at least in my case, I've grown out of graphic design itself. I'm more into digital illustration and painting than making signatures and forum headers.

You've grown out of it? you say that as if it's a childish activity. By the way, graphic design doesn't only include signatures and forum headers.

There a lots of small graphic design forums out there as stated in the first post. What's needed is one to come and take the community by storm. Combine the design on places like SI, and the features of places like SZ and there is a winning combinations. To add to the lack of designers, there is a lack of determination to make a project like this succeed. Nothing can succeed with a driving force and all the PB Design forums don't have that. One person, with enough determination to make something succeed needs to team up with someone to design and code something.

Until that combination is created, then the design community is just going to continue in it's decline, which could well lead to an early grave.

There are also a lot of n00by designers out there (I'm not saying I'm not one) that start up these graphic design forums thinking they can be the best, and there in the chain. The chain that is killing the design community.

My apologies for any offense you may have taken from my comment. I merely meant I had moved on from Graphic Design to more illustration-based art in terms of my creative enterprises.

News flash, Illustration falls under the umbrella of Graphic Design

You mean you grew out of making ---- sigs or forum skins, which is more web design.
