Question about Text Effects

I have always seen text with borders, or depth, or that has a shadow or glows, though when I find the font it's just normal and flat.

How do you add these effects in GIMP? Or can you?

I have read some though and they can confuse me, but I'll try them. Any quick tips you want to give me before I go for the tutorials?

not really. i don't use gimp. overall though, i'd generally stay away from text effects. ;] unless you're really comfortable with design, they generally tend to look a bit nooby.

Hmm okay, well I'll experiment with them. I mostly just want to put borders without having to draw them in myself, but from the tutorials that's about all I can do

If you do for some reason download GIMP, or I aquire whatever photo design program you have(Which I assume is photoshop) you will have to give me tips :3 Until them I'm just going to work with what I have.

and okay. :3 i used to use gimp ages ago, but then my mom introduced me to PS. I haven't gone back, haha. xD

As already said, stay well away from text effects use pixel fonts if you can. unless your making a big project.
