I should have taken my Mac with me to college, which had all of my Photoshop things... They have photoshop on campus, but I haven't figured out yet how to install fonts.
Anyway, I have recently downloaded GIMP, but I have to be honest, I have not done anything yet with it.
Am I going to be able to blend images and such like I was able to in Photoshop? And use brushes and patterns?

you can do pretty much anything with GIMP that you can with PS. I've seen some amazing GIMP images and tutorials on dA. The methods are pretty similar, but not exactly the same. You should be able to download patterns and GIMP-specific brushes still. =]
edit;; some of the GIMP functions, actually, make certain techniques easier I've found, in comparison to how to do it on PS.
