Photoshop CS3 Issues

Hopefully, someone will know what the heck is going on because I have no idea.

Yesterday, I was trying to make a sig, and I'm not sure why, but whenever I pasted an image into the canvas that was larger than the actual canvas, the only part of the picture there was what was on the canvas, nothing beyond it, even though I know there was more to the picture.

I didn't merge the picture or anything. I just pasted it in and then went to move it to discover there wasn't any more of the picture. As you can imagine, this is very frustrating as I'm pretty sure most graphic makers will agree that you need to adjust the picture.

Has anyone else come across this problem?

I'm sure the image gets cut if the picture is bigger than the canvas. I think that you can move it around as long as you don't select it all (Ctrl+A) and then move it, just use Move Tool without selecting everything.
