www.xtrm-elites.proboards.comHi Wormo. Well I'm using your event countdown code. If you recall, over at IOD you helped me out with some mods. One of those mods was that you made the code support time zones, but I recently noticed that the code doesn't support time zones. A friend of mine who lives in UK posted an event putting the time of his zone, 10:30 PM, which is 2:30 PM for me (I live in California), but the countdown shows that the even will start at 10:30 PM for me as well, even though we're 8 hours apart! Am I doing something wrong with the format? Did I not understand correctly how the time zones work? or does the code actually NOT support time zones?

what did he put as the countdown tag and I will see if I can recreate it. I did a LOT of testing that night after you asked about timezones and I know I had an event at 3PM in NY occur at noon in Las Vegas. I could have missed something though.

This is what my friend put for the format:
[countdown:Free For All Tournament Begins In=April 16 2011 10:30 PM]Free For All Tournament Begins Now![/countdown]
That's when the event is supposed to start over at the UK, which is 2:30 PM over at California. But it shows the same for Cali as it does for the UK.

even though its 0 for him, if that 0 isnt in there the code doesnt know that there is a timezone offset to be calculated. the code will ignore the 0 for him, but USE it for you because your timezone ISNT 0. it can be -0, 0, or +0 if you want to make it official, but there has to be a number after the AM/PM for the code to know extra work is required.

Ok cool. It works. Now... how do I know which 0 I'm supposed to use for each time zone? I'm gonna have people from all over the world posting different events, some from Europe, some South America, Asia, even Australia. How will I know which 0 each person uses? Is there like a legend for this or something similar?

well it wouldnt be 0 for everyone. the 0 was JUST for HIS timezone since he lived in GMT. I wasnt sure how else I could put it in there without using numbers. using the letters opens up all sorts of errors.
looking up your own timezone is as easy as using google, but Eastern is -5, Central is -6, Mountain is -7, Pacific is -8. its basically just putting the timezone offset in there if you want an event to happen at a synchronized time.
if you dont really care if new york sees the event before california does, then dont use the timezone offset. if you dont even care about the time at all, dont put in the time - it will assume noon for everyone
