Is anybody else going to celebrate tau day?
On a more serious note, I'm curious to know for anyone that enjoys math, what programs have you found to be particularly useful when doing mathematics (or creating formula sheets that look pretty)?
Personally, I use Mathematica now and again for solving things, and sometimes use Matlab (but not nearly as often). As for formula sheets (prior to Office 2007), I'd always use this nifty program called MathType, which enables me to actually create fractions, limits, etc.
Anybody else have nifty programs, or an alternative look on mathematics (such as the video I posted)?
Also: is anyone pi-winning?

SPSS is great for Stats- though it's rather expensive if you're getting the teacher/professor version...

Why would I use the American date system? Pi day and tau day are both based around the American date system. That's why.

The maths society at my university celebrated pi day by giving out the obvious sweet pastry dish so I imagine someone might well do something similar for tau day. Personally I'm far too fond of pi to give it up - even if it does have it's imperfections. For doing any kind of numerical solutions stuff we use matlab just because that's what we were taught with; also doing a module which uses java for mathematical problems and it's very powerful but a lot of effort to do a load of programming just to solve something that would be considerably more intuitive to solve in something like matlab. For typesetting I use a program called Lyx - it produces the documents using latex so is very pretty to look at but is GUI based so you don't have to go to all the effort of learning the commands for tex. Still takes forever typesetting any kind of maths on a computer unless you learn something like latex, much rather just do it with pen and paper wherever possible.
