Layout Critique and Suggestions

I'm not the most coding heavy person out there, I focus more on my writing, but I find myself at a loss at how to make our site more presentable. Any critiques on the current layout or ideas on how to make it better would be greatly appreciated. Especially those pertaining to color choices and the board set-up. Also, notes regarding the chatboxes would be helpful, as well.

Add the red (info titles) remove the bold forward slashes, (not needed with css).

I would adjust the windowbg rollover color to something other than white, preferably just a shade darker or lighter than your windowbg.

I'd try customizing the tabulated categories so that they match the color scheme for your site, firstly. Also I wouldn't recommend transparent backgrounds for your title bars and whatnot. Gradients are easy to make and would look cleaner. You might wanna hit up the graphic request board here for some customized icons (mainly the on/off and info center ones).

I agree with what CSS3 and Smangii have suggested as well. Borders, different chat, and a change of rollover color.
