7 suspects. 10 rooms. 7 weapons. 8 days.
Welcome to a beta game of Clue. This is the very second attempt at an interactive Clue forum-based game that I could find, so we'll see how it goes. Here are the guinea pigs...
Players
Narrator: Syko
1: James [a_leon] -- Miss Scarlet
2: Red Queen -- Mr. Green
3: B L I Z Z -- Mrs. White
4: Phaelyn -- Col. Mustard
5: Alibi -- Mrs. Peacock
6: Megalolzxx -- Prof. Plum
7: Harlequin -- Mr. Goodbar
That's right, each player is a suspect in this version of the game. (We'll see how this goes. )
At the beginning of the game, each player gets a PM from me listing the three "cards" in their hand from the list below. Let's be clear upfront: no screenshots/video of your cards are allowed. This is a game of luck, deception, logic, and strategy... not Photoshop.
List of Cards
SUSPECTS:
Mrs. Peacock
Mrs. White
Miss Scarlet
Col. Mustard
Prof. Plum
Mr. Green
Mr. Goodbar
ROOMS:
Library
Ballroom
Billiards Room
Kitchen
Conservatory
Gallery
Bedroom
Bathroom
Pantry
Wine Cellar
WEAPONS:
Knife
Revolver
Rope
Candlestick
Lead Pipe
Wrench
Crowbar
Beginning of the Game:
These are the 24 cards out there, and 21 will be dealt to the players. The remaining three are the solution to the puzzle... the perpetrator, room, and weapon of the murder.
This means you may be dealt multiple weapons cards, all room cards, no suspect cards... luck of the draw. You may or may not have your own character card in your hand, with one obvious exception....
The guilty party! The player who committed the murder (in other words, the one whose character card is in the solution to the puzzle) is informed that they committed the murder, where, and with what. They know the solution, so their objective is not to solve the puzzle, obviously. Instead, they attempt to mislead the others in public speculation or private communications for eight days. If they are not caught after this time, their lawyer is able to get them out of the country scot-free and they win.
Everyone else... attempts to solve the puzzle by making Suggestions in private to me each night, narrowing down the possible cards that could be in the envelope. When you're ready, you must team up with someone to make a Joint Accusation, but you've only got one shot. If you get it wrong, people will declare both of you insane, and you will have to sit out and watch everyone else bumble around and try to catch the real murderer here.
Now for the nitty-gritty...
Night phase:
When evening falls, every active player can PM me with their Suggestion. This consists of one of each card category -- for instance, "Was it Mr. Green in the kitchen with the lead pipe?"
I will respond to disprove them if possible, using the cards in each player's hand starting from player 1 on the list.
For example, if [player 3] guessed that it was Mr. Green in the kitchen with the lead pipe, I would look at [player 1]'s cards, then [player 2]'s, [player 4]'s, [player 5]'s, [player 6]'s, and finally [player 7]'s, attempting to find a player who can disprove this Suggestion. If a player has more than one card that can disprove a Suggestion, I will attempt to obfuscate the situation in my choice of which card to reveal.
In my PM response, I will reveal which card you saw, and which player holds it.
The night phase will last a maximum of 36 hours. By the end of the night, everyone who has sent me a PM will have gotten the chance to make a Suggestion. (Players who do not send in a Suggestion with 36 hours will forfeit their opportunity to make one that round.)
Day phase:
Open communication is allowed and encouraged. Deception is also allowed and encouraged.
Everyone can post the next day to strategize, confuse, seek out allies, or lie. For instance, you can post the next day with what you investigated and the card you saw in response... and you can lie about what you guessed, and the answer you received.
This can help throw others off the trail so they can't guess correctly, because the objective of this game is not like Mafia. While you will need an ally to win, the game isn't about everyone banding together to take down the murderer... it's all about the glory of being the ones to do it, and teamwork will probably reflect this.
This phase will last about 24 hours, to give everyone a chance to make an Accusation and strategize. Then, the day ends again.
This repeats for eight days.
An Accusation Is Made!
Accusations must be made with a partner. Once you believe you have the answer, both you and your partner must PM me to indicate that you are working together and that you are about to post an Accusation. You must post your Accusation publicly in the thread (preferably in red so I don't accidentally skip it).
If an Accusation has been made, no further Accusations may be made until the results of the Accusation are revealed.
I will post to say whether the Accusation is true (in which case, you both win and the game ends), or false (in which case, you both lose and the game continues without you, since you're now in an asylum). The murderer will not lose the game if they collaborate in an Accusation, but they will become unable to participate in discussions, just like any player who has been sent away.
Note that if there is only one player left (that is, the other six players have all been sent away), and that player is not the murderer, they may post an Accusation alone.
Misc. Clarifications
The perpetrating player does not PM me with guesses, but they can work with someone to make an Accusation, if they wish. Keep in mind that if you are the perpetrator and do this, it limits your ability to deceive others. This could also be a good thing.
When someone falsely Accuses and is sent away, I will continue using their cards to answer guesses like normal.
Accusations cannot be made at night, only during the day.
