Themes Questions

While I understand the ease in which themes can be created in V5, I am curious of the following questions below. I was unable to find the answers to said questions and do apologize If I overlooked them.

• 1. Will the current 'defaulted' theme within V5 be available at launch?
  
• 2. How many themes (roughly), will be available at launch?
  
• 3. Will the theme 'Postopia' be available at launch?

Some themes would be great.
Maybe even hold a contest afterwards (not straight away, but shortly) like you guys used to do, for a new theme to be added to V5

I'd love to see what people could do.

I'd love for you to allow some or us (now or later) to create themes, submit them and then have multiple you can choose at signup when creating your forum

For default themes, I'd say to have maybe 3 or 5 of them.

The first one should be super simple like in v4. Almost no design and it's like a coloring book for forum admins.

You should include one light skin (like the blue on in v5 right now) for an example for them to use.

One dark skin like the blue one only dark.

A more advanced skin that takes advantage of advanced features for those who are more adventurous. Have it include a fancy menu, make the boards look cool, maybe put the chatbar on the side or something.

And I'm not sure on the fifth one.

The current default theme on the v5 copy support forum (or something similar say minus the scan lines for real) would be great as a default on launch because it seems to show off the features the best and most straight-forward. I'll be good to have a couple of default skins on conversion to give people options as tie-over skins while they explore the theme-making capabilities and template-editing freedom while making their own.

Will there be a theme marketplace? I haven't been paying close attention lately.

Very nice, Patrick. I think that's a great idea. Is there an ongoing thread for theme suggestions to make the launch? One last thing, the themes that I'm speaking of -- would these be embedded already to select from the 'theme selector' or ones that we'll have to install ourselves?

We plan to have an area where you can view themes to easily import to your forum. More details on this later.

I want to, sooner rather than later, release some of the templates so people can start to get used to them.

The issue with releasing them too early though, is that by release they may no longer be compatible.

Themes are controlled in the Theme area of your Admin Control Panel. Only people who you give access to this area have access to creating and editing your forums themes. Users can't just export your themes without you giving them access to the area.

M3, that's the admin area -- that is how it will look. The admin area is separate from the rest of the forum in v5 (so even if you mess up a template or H&F code, you still have admin access).
