I know we can ignore individual users on v5. What about individual threads?
On a few occasions people are revolted by the topic or the title of a thread. Will they be able to block it in v5?

If you are revolted by a topic on a forum, that probably isn't a forum you should be on We don't have any plans to auto filter out threads based on any keywords.

What about a way to check the box on the topic page, and "hide" said thread?

In order to determine if you want a thread blocked you would need to read it. Once you've read a thread that you don't like your brain should be able to filter the list and prevent you from clicking on it again.
Oh Stinky666 has a thread about pizza making. I read the thread. It's not my thing. I'm back at the board level and I see a thread by Stinky about Pizza making. I don't click it. My brain already knows. That's how everyone on every message board has functioned since they were invented. You don't reread things you've already read. That's why the new icon exists as well. To tell people they can return to threads they want to read when there is new content.
The time it would take to add such a feature isn't conducive to it's usefulness or the resources it would take to manage it. We would have to track every single member's blocked threads in every board. There would be issues like what happens if they are linked directly to the thread, or someone quotes a post from the thread, etc. etc. We have other very important things to get done so that we can launch v5. This feature is unfortunately not going to happen. Sorry. :/

What Stinky is requesting is exactly what some of our posters want.
To give you an example, we have a member who is very sensitive to swearing and objected to a poster titling her thread "Going through Hell" to describe her day. To the poster (and 99% of us), the word "hell" is a metaphor, but to this fundamentalist it is a curse word. It bothers the reader. If she could hide the thread, it wouldn't upset her.
This is a self-help forum with people from around the world. We have a lot of different cultures and religions represented. Some don't mix too well, but resources are thin on the ground so they still need access to our forum. Adding the ability to hide individual threads by readers would be helpful to their peace of mind.
I understand and accept your stance, Pat and Ryan. I'm sure it would add hours to v5 or v5.x coding and add to server loads. It was simply an idea suggested during a recent kerfluffle and I thought it was worth asking. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

You could create a custom censored words list plugin and filter specific words just for her. Problem solved. EDIT: Using plugins you could even make this feature. Though it would be more difficult to implement than a custom censored words list plugin.
