I know that in v5 there is a direct way to edit the CSS of the forum, and I'm wondering if I will be able to directly edit everything. Like, say, different sets of links rather than all links. Like, making the menu links and the board links two completely different styles or colors if I wanted to.

That is a good question. It would be so helpful if so.

You have direct access to the forum's CSS file.

You have direct access to the forum's CSS file. Yes, I know that. But what I'm wondering is if I would be able to specify a certain class for links outside of the general a/a:hover/etc. classes.

People who aren't familiar with the advanced stuff shouldn't be in the advanced areas. We have put up warnings in those areas notifying people they shouldn't be editing things if they don't understand. Additionally we have certain plans for the admin area that I can't explain at this time, but they will help reduce issues with things like this.
We are providing tools of all skill levels to admins. They will be able to edit on their skill level. And for more advanced modifications they can just install plugins made by advanced admins who do understand things.
