So, rumor around the few sites I'm on now says that the plug-in system is replacing the "header/footer" entering for codes. I haven't really been keeping up with the v5 update since I wasn't going to host my own forum again for a while, but now I'm a coder for a smaller RP Forum. Finally got the guts up to come pick the brains of the creators, anyone mind explaining the actual "new" system for coding?
Things I've heard: -No codes currently installed will work -Site layouts will be "reset" (meaning we have to go through and redo our whole layout to fit with v5)
The other things I've heard are about the same after I thought about it, but anyway, I'm curious on what actually is going on now so I can keep the RP Forum I'm helping with as up to date as possible. Especially if I need to start working on things to make the new layout we'll be moving to compatible/re-do it to fit with v5.
~Thanks in advance

The previous headers/footers system will exist. Plugins is a supplemental system. Majority of old codes will not work, BUT, many are now built in features, can be done through the template editing system, or will be recreated within a week... so there is little cause for alarm.

Hi Fox,
The plugins system is not replacing headers and footers. Though I think most people will find it easier to use the plugin system for sharing codes and editing things. Headers and footers will still exist much the same way that they do now.
Most codes will break at conversion to v5. However many of these will be very minor breaks that can be fixed quickly and easily. Any straight html you have should continue to function normally. When we convert all headers and footers that currently have code in them will be turned into a backup file that you will have access to. And new blank headers and footers will be created in their place. You can reference the backups with a single click from anywhere in your headers and footers where you had code before. And then move the codes over quickly and easily. So none of your codes will be lost.
Our next phase is called beta zone. Once we are in beta zone we will be giving forum admins access to copies of their forums using v5. This will allow admins to experiment with codes, fix old codes that may have stopped working, and prepare for launch. This is a copy of your forum that is intend for the exact purpose of letting you experiment. Three months before the official launch we will open up conversions and admins who are ready can convert their forums to v5 at their leisure. You will have plenty of time to experiment and keep your RP forum up to date. You'll have lots of time to create your v5 layout and codes before you ever need to convert to v5. For your members you can make it a seamless transition.
I hope that helps alleviate any concerns that you have and squash any rumors you've heard.

Interesting reading, as I was wondering how the codes I'm currently using would be affected in v5.

Interesting reading, as I was wondering how the codes I'm currently using would be affected in v5. That really depends on the code. If it's purely an HTML code, it will probably work without any changes. Other codes might need a few updates to get working. Still others won't even be needed any more, because v5 offers a ton of new features that previously you needed codes to get Our team will be ready to help forum owners with the v5 transition and will ensure it goes as smoothly as possible for you Patrick

Thanks Patrick that's good to know. ;D I'm a silver surfing gardener.... I really wouldn't know what makes a code HTML for starters.....

Are these changes causing issues today? Testing and working on a new forum. Had a banner image code that made it the width of the forum (love the banner being the screen width and matching the wide forum) it worked when testing for the last 2 weeks but today it won't work. It won't size the image in anyway but the last 2 weeks it would resize it smaller, larger just fine. Very annoyed as that code was something key to what kind of design I want. Nothing else works to do that specific thing. Any clue on what the deal is today? Even took out every other code but it still will not work like it did the past 2 weeks. How does it go from working perfect to not at all. :/

V5 is not currently being tested on current forums (check the FAQ thread in this board for more info). If you're having problems with coding on your forum, feel free to make a thread in the Code Support board
