Skin Transition

Two of the issues that have somewhat been of concern to me have been the transition of our existing codes to the new V5 and the transition of our existing skins to V5.

I guess I pretty much got the question answered regarding the codes in another thread, but what about the current skin selection(s) we have made available to our forum members? Will they make the transition?

We are still working on the themes area of v5. As such we have not finalized how we are going to handle skin to theme conversion. Our current goal will be to convert existing skin hex values into new theme hex values. The goal being to match the theme as closely as possible. The issue is it's not a one to one matching process. Lots of values exist in v5 that don't exist in v4. In most cases it will be easy to substitute a value from a similar element. But on certain very extreme themes this could be an issue.

So to answer your question we intend to maintain your skins as much as we possibly can. Though, just like codes, they may need a few tweaks to optimize them after conversion. Yes they will make the transition, how exactly has yet to be tested.

Thanks, Ryan, that has been a little bit of a concern to me, as I was wondering what kind of time I will need to invest into setting that up, as may be required. For now, I may as well plan to devote a little time to taking care of the task of setting up skins again and just hope for the best, eh?

Keep in mind, Larry, that once we get to beta zone, owners will have the option of making a copy of their board in v5 to mess around with. That would be the ideal time to see how your existing skins and other codes will transition, and to begin tweaking them if necessary.

That slipped my mind too. Yes, that is true, thank you. That would be much better than members seeing a disorganized and disarrayed board. ;D
