Okay. So say I wanted to add 10 new custom fields to the miniprofile, which is easy I know. The thing is, I don't wouldn't want them to be in the list. What I would want is a little link say at the bottom of the miniprofile, that would either make the show at the bottom or a popup div or something like that showing all the fields. So would that be possible, and if so would it require a plugin/code or could it be done with a modification of the template?

Well currently you can set custom fields to be in the main profile, mini profile or both. So you could just set it to the main profile. Then people would go there to see the other ones. To further tempt them you could use a code/plugin or modify the template to add a link that takes you to the profile. Title the link whatever you want and place it at the bottom of mini profiles. Or you could create a code/plugin that hides certain custom fields and have a link that shows them when people click. Or you could modify the template to do this as well.
So a few way to do it, all fairly simple. But it wont be default functionality. You already control what you want to show or not.

So - in short - I'll be seeing about a bazillion master coders using jQuery, correct? It's become a thing.

There will be an entire library of plugins. A bazillion is a good goal to shoot for. Most everything that people want to customize can be done with a plugin. It's a lot simpler to allow people to customize their individual forums above the core software then it is to incorporate every request. This is a great example of something that is super simple with a plugin, code or even direct template modification.
