Reported Posts Featurette (w/ screenshots)

Shentino was asking questions in another thread and I typed up a breakdown of the Reported Posts. I thought I would share it with everyone here as well.



Here is a shot of the Reported Post Inbox. You can see all the reports here. We'll use the third one down as an example.



Here is a shot of a report. I'll just list some things to check out.

• A copy of the Reported Post. If you click 'Take Immediate Action' a toolbar appears allowing you to do everything to a thread that you can. Lock, Delete, Move, etc. This is for when the post must be dealt with right away.
  
• Reasons Reported. If multiple members report a post then all the reasons appear here. There is an expand and collapse link that appears when there are a lot of reasons reported so you can hide them and work more efficiently.
  
• Staff Discussion. You can see that I posted. This essentially creates a mini discussion thread between staff where they can talk about what to do. You'll notice under the reply box there is an area to make suggestions. Any time a staff member posts they can use that area to say what you think should be done. When you submit it will place your suggestions on the right side of the report in the Suggestions area. Submitting new suggestions overwrites the old ones.
  
• Reported User. You can see the reported users mini-profile. This helps the staff recognize the member. Their staff notes also appear so that you can see if they have a history for causing trouble, in case that affects their punishment.
  
• Suggestions. I mentioned already that submitted suggestions appear here. Each staff member will only appear once with their suggestions. This allows the main admin or whoever is going to take action see what the staffs opinion is at a glance.
  
• Resolution. Like the 'Take Immediate Action' toolbar is for dealing with the post. The Resolution box is for dealing with the member and closing the report. You can issue a warning, ban the member, or disable their account. You can add to their staff notes, and have the option to PM them a copy of what is written. Lastly, if everything is taken care of you can archive the report.
  

The Archive is just like the Report Inbox, but full of old reports.

I hope that gives you a better idea of the Reported Posts.

Very nice, Ryan.. I see that v5 will now allow multiple users to report the same post, which is different.

I like the ability to take action right away, too, without having to go to their profile.

"Make suggestions" action seems fantastic.
Though, it took me a few seconds to see the "suggestions" bit on the right side.

Suggestions is right above Resolutions because they should be considered for the resolution. Trust me it's easy to see when multiple staff members have made them. Also when the page is longer (from the staff conversation for example) and you need to scroll down, the Suggestions and Resolutions scroll with you.

The report basically is broken in half. The Left Side focuses on the post, the right side focuses on the member.

Even though it makes sense, it'll be one of those things we will need to get used to, as with most things. Which is a good thing.

Is there a big improvement to the archive? Or it it just a sort of threaded view of the reports?

The archive tab looks identical to the Reported Post Inbox in the first screenshot above. It just contains all the reports that have been resolved. Clicking on a report in the archive opens it the same way as the second screenshot. The archive is where you can check previous reports.

One feature I forgot to mention above is when a member has previous reports about them, links will appear in the current report that link to other reports. That helps the staff just like the staff notes do to determine if this member is an ongoing problem.

I assume there's also a way to deal with frivolous reports or people just plain trying to spam the mods with reports?

You can archive a report without taking any action if the report isn't actually violating.

Any one who spams the mods with the report feature in on the fast track to being banned. They're essentially spamming a feature that notifies every staff member on the forum about their presence. I don't image it would take long for the staff to deal with that member.

Awesome! But i think it would be good if you allow ppl to give a reason on why there warning you, Like a ban would only for a warn..

The system does allow you to message them about why they are being warned.

In the Resolution box you can enter the amount you are warning them for in the Warn User field and then type the reason why they are receiving the warning. Check the Send PM box and Save Changes. The person will receive the warning and the message telling them why. A copy of the message will also be added to that members staff notes for future reference.
