[Captain Longstockings!]

My schedule hasn't allowed me a great amount of time to explore the new proboards thoroughly, so I apologize if this is already a feature.

Topic descriptions for threads, like what Invisionfree has. I know that there is a code for it, but it'd be so much better if it was a built in feature, or maybe a feature that has to be enabled/disabled by the admin?

Thank you for the request. We have had similar requests for this and while it won't be included as a launch feature we might include it in our v5.x updates.

It also may be possible using our new Plugin system.

It will still show the first 50 (or so) characters on hover, right?

Yes, the Thread Preview still works when you hover over a thread title.

What I believe Captain Longstockings was requesting is more like this.
