Greetings annadynamite,
I have previously started a discussion regarding alternate gender option, to the same response. As a result, I unfortunately have some forum members who are uncomfortable with use of the registration form, and for whom, I am looking for other options.
As for adding the custom profile option, this will be a feature once v5 is out. You cannot do it in the current v 4.5 software.
In the mean time, the [codedatabase] has some codes to allow extra gender options. Until ProBoards fixes this or I find another host, I have been using the "add gender options" code by CrAzY_J, with success.

Can you change your gender later?
Not joking, some people actually get sex change operations IRL (I know someone who did so)

or is there perhaps a way to add "genderqueer" or "non-binary" for those who do not identify as strictly "male" or "female"? I don't think it should matter what gender you are on a forum. However, your genetics decide which gender you are not you. It's one of those things that you don't get to decide. I know, it's not fair but that's the way life works!

Some people simply don't view themselves as male or female.

But it won't add more options "on the registration profile". Can you change it to the registration page too?

But it won't add more options "on the registration profile". Can you change it to the registration page too? Because the registration page is not on the forum, it can't be changed. ProBoards refuses to change the binary system they are using, however I have successfully changed the gender system after registration on my test forum, so it is possible.

I know, it's not fair but that's the way life works!I'm sorry but who the hell are you to decide this? A neuroscientist? Someone specialising in the study of the brain and gender development perhaps? I highly doubt it. Look at the research that's been done and don't try to enforce your outdated beliefs on others. Believing that your gender identity and genitalia are the same thing has been disproven, just as the ideas that the sun revolves around the earth, and that leeches cure any disease As someone who seems to have some authority here, don't judge or be a d*ck about other people. I looked up this as my partner is genderqueer (she doesn't quite identity as female, but doesn't entirely identify as male either, she's somewhere in the middle) and didn't feel comfortable about putting her gender down. On top of that, what about intersexed people? They may have been assigned x gender at birth but their genetics don't agree with them. They are neither male or female. What about people who, in the womb, recieve too much of a hormone at the wrong stage and their brain develops female while their body develops female? there IS a difference between the female and male brain, for example that females have about 3 times as many smell receptors, something which is present in transsexual women.

Can we not turn this into an argument about genders, thanks. Members have their own reasons for not wanting a gender, or wanting alternative genders, it is not our place to judge them here

I fully agree with you on this topic, however given that ProBoards doesn't provide the option, it is possible to customize a specific forum to allow more gender options (though unfortunately not on the registration page).
