Is there any other way to get into BetaZone than registering into Facebook. ? I am not a Facebook member and really didn't want to be. I am not into social networkinmg or wanting to getting involved with all the problems that some experience with Facebook.

Same here. My FB page got hacked so I deactivated it. I have no desire to start another one or reactivate one that has been compromised for this.

I deactivated my fb account earlier this year, hate fb, so was pretty ticked that have to re-activate just to "like" in order to sign up for a ..waiting list. Such a bummer. So now that I have put my email on the list, can I de-activate my account again? Or do I have to keep it activated so I can still remain on the list?

Hi,
At this time, the only way to sign up for BetaZone is through Facebook. Once you are on the list, you are on the list. Deactivating your Facebook account won't remove you from the BetaZone list.

This may be possible in the future, but not at this time.

I am not on Facebook at all either ad don't intend to be so I guess I will join the bunch that will just wait until V5 is launched and try to take it from there I joined Facebook a few years ago and got swamped with people wanting to be my freinds even though I had everything checked to not have those emails filling up my inbox every day . Then I had one hell of a time ttrying to get my account deleted. Facebook wants you to join but make it very difficult to cancel your account. After several months I finally got it deleted. BEWARE . . . anyone that thinks you can just get in and get on V5 and get out easily . . . . think again. You might be in for a nightmare you didn't expect .

I've gone through the process before and it wasn't bad at all. You don't have to accept anybody nor even look at the friend requests. You also don't have to put up information about yourself, and you can use a fake name without a profile picture. If you still get emails from Facebook after disabling them, you can have your email send them all to your spam inbox.

I also had some trouble deactivating my FB account years ago; have they changed the process to make it easier? I looked on the FB site to find the answer to that question, but I can't find it. I can't afford to NOT deactivate it; last time, someone used facebook to hack my family computer. Check out the second paragraph, it contains a link to permanently delete your account. If someone gained access to your Facebook account, it's because they were able to figure out your password. They did not hack Facebook, so just be sure your passwords have uppercase and lowercase letters as well as numbers and special characters.

If someone gained access to your Facebook account, it's because they were able to figure out your password. They did not hack Facebook, so just be sure your passwords have uppercase and lowercase letters as well as numbers and special characters. Theory debunked, it's long passwords that are more secure than complex ones. Something like "A1!@2b" [1/(96^6) = 1/782757789696] will be beat by a password like "whatkindofpassword" [1/(26^18) = 1/2.9479510200013924e+25] Just don't make your password a simple dictionary word and only that - dictionary-based brute force attacks are common enough. Just remember to stay over 8 characters, and you should be fine. My pass for FB is three small words combined by a simple symbol, making it basically 1/(60^10), or 1/6.0466176e+17. At any rate, it is a bit unfair, as a minority seems excluded here.

Probably another dense question but as a silver surfer and not a Facebook lover, I am just interested to know why Proboards has to be linked to Facebook...??
Just for Proboards to get more "likes" seems a bit silly when one sees how many forums Proboards has and how many people it is obviously upsetting that they have to open a Facebook account...
Social networks have to remain a choice and not a must...I am trying to understand why at my age I am starting to feel like a naughty school kid and being told to stand in a corner...
I am assuming, hopefully correctly, that throw away names and email addy's can be used for this action??
