Only Facebook To Get In ?

For years I have been a Proboard fan. I am NOT a FB fan. If Proboard MUST be linked to FB or affiliated with it I will need to find another host to park my forums with.
Your PM to my message board listed several 'upgrade' features to v5. Every one of them is a reason I do NOT like FB.
What happened to usable utilities for my members like multiple images in a post? We were told some time back that that was coming.
Proboards have taken very good care of me. I've had no complaint with admin until now. Sorry guys, but this is not for me. I know that the HUGE majority will jump at this. I cannot.

I'm feeling this too. I don't want to have facebook spamming up my inbox (and they do, I've had one before and it got so much spam from facebook and elsewhere that I had to make a new email...). I really like Proboards and would love to jump on board with BetaZone but until people who don't use facebook for whatever personal reasons have an option for joining in (and it better not be twitter), I'll be passing. Hopefully when BetaZone is released Proboards will have their own sign-up, unaffiliated with anyone else.

I don't, ever, intend to sign up for something I don't want, even temporally, to check out something else.

Can you give me a good reason for this requirement?

Hello,

I'd like to address some of your points, I think you have misunderstood some things:

1) You do not need to link your Facebook to ProBoards. If you want to join our 100% optional BetaZone test then you can opt-in on our Facebook page.

2) v5 has literally hundreds of new features. Posting multiple attachments in a single post is one of them (by default we let you upload 3 images now). So, that feature is coming as we promised.

3) ProBoards v5 gives you more control over your forum than ever before. We give you direct access to the HTML. If you don't like a new feature, it generally is extremely easy to remove. v5 actually makes your forum easier to use. Just try it out.

4) Our current plan is that after BetaZone starts, we will introduce a way for those that do not use Facebook to join in. But you will not get in on the very initial launch.

To those saying Facebook "spams" your e-mail.

Yeah. No they don't. You can choose to opt out of notifications if you wish. I never get e-mails from Facebook. Ever. Not since I opted out of notifications.

I'll have to wait it out too. I am not on FB, I was, but it was driving me nut and I'm not going back. As much as I like being on the internet, FB is not my thing and I don't want it to be either.

Same here. I had the same experience with Facebook. Still getting more and more links sent to me via email or on forums asking me to go to Facebook to see their "stuff" . I just delete them . I never click any links anymore that tells me to go to Facebook . I have more to do with my time than to spend it on social networking on any of them like twitter or anything else.
Lots of members leave forums because they have joined sites like Facebook and twitter and others and spend most of their available time there and not enough left over for Proboards or any other forums. Only so many hours in a day .
Of course some of them have nothing else to do so they have enough time for both.

On the bright side, Patrick mentioned that eventually we will be able to get to Beta-Zone via a more convenient method so many of us will sit tight and wait for that to happen.

Thanks Patrick for realizing the problem it is for some of us and caring to addressing some of our concerns.

I do not have a FaceBook account so I can't test my forum out in v5 despite the fact v5 in rolling out in less than 2 months?

Vary disappointed in ProBoards.

You will still be able to get a v5 copy of your forum to test before v5 comes out, this is just a beta version of that process.

Please read the above posts; we will provide an option to non-Facebook users shortly after BetaZone starts.

I very much hope ProBoards is getting the message on this.

Many of us use your system because it is NOT FACEBOOK. It certainly in not in your interest to push us to a competing service in order to use yours.
