I have a setup on my tower that allows me to use animated wallpapers. I was wondering if there was a way to do the same with proboards? I think it would be really awesome to be able to have an animated background for all forums! Any help with this idea would be appreciated! Thanks!

While I can see where some people might not like it (epileptic fits can be caused by flashing images), I personally would like to be able to use animated backgrounds. (I had a skin idea for my forum that would look very nice with one, actually.) sadly, I don't think it would be implemented as a feature due to the likelihood of people abusing it and putting obnoxiously flashy images on their forums. Some people just can't let us have nice things...

I think all you would need is a .gif image (rather than a .jpg or .bmp).
However, I agree that many may not like it if you made it the default due to the sensitivities some have to movements. I did a falling snow one last year, but my mega awesome coding genius tweaked it so that people could turn it off it it bothered them.

You can already do this, both in v4 and v5.

oh you can? thats pretty awesome! is gif the only format supported? i did a little research into making gifs about 3 years ago and i want to say it was a program called gimp that you need to make a gif. would there be a conflict as far as size and aspect ratio? or is there a way to upload a wmv file? any tutorials you guy might know about floating around the support form would be helpful because i dont really know what exactly it is im supposed to be searching for.

.gif is the only format that's know of that supports animation.

.wmv is a movie extension (not a graphic) and to the best of my knowledge it's not supported for that reason. Shorty is correct that you would need a .gif. I'm sure that you can create .gif images in programs other than gimp - photoshop for one. However, this support board isn't the place to look for that sort of tutorial. You'll need to google, I'm afraid.

Also you can go to the graphics design request section and see if someone can make you one.

And just to clarify. Using only .gifs is a limit of the internet, not a limit of ProBoards. There are also animated .pngs but they are not supported by all browsers yet. Video files cannot be applied to background classes. ProBoards supports what the internet allows with regards to backgrounds.

I have a choice of still or animated backgrounds on my forum now. You can make such backgrounds with Animation Shop. I use a still one as default so as not to cause problems for people looking in
