I was looking at the planned features for V5, and while I really like some (WYSIWYG editor, plugins, infinite sub-boards), others are things I could live without or wouldn't need on my forum ("Liking" posts? you've already affiliated with facebook, don't become them, PB; @tagging? So you're going to be Twitter, too?). Will there be admin panel options for enabling and disabling things such as live search, post liking, and all the really fancy bells and whistles?
While I do think that it's about time for an upgrade, some of it seems a bit extraneous for the kind of forum I've been looking to run. I don't need a "like" button. I don't need @tagging. I'm sure there will be other features I just don't need and there almost has to be more than one person feeling this...right?
Can we please have the option to disable some of this stuff?

You'll be able to disable things via plugins, in the worst case. (I've argued for being able to disable some of these features in the past.)

Can you please let us turn on the things we want rather than converting our forums to a bunch of cheesy FB crap that we then have to figure out how to turn off.
The last thing i want if for my boards to start looking like FB. If i want a "like" button wouldn't i have just made a FB page?

Removing the Like feature is very simple, you just edit the template to remove the like button (which takes about 5 seconds to do). @tagging is actually quite a useful feature -- you can @mention a username and they can receive a notification. So this means you can mention someone in a post, and they'll be told about it, thus driving more engagement on the forum.
If you don't want the search box, again that's simply deleting one variable from your template. Very easy to do.

As long as we can choose what features we feel we need, I have no problems or complaints. It was the thought that all these things would just be there for no reason, taking up space on my forum when nobody would actually use them that bothered me so much. And on the subject of @tagging, it could prove useful to me, but it's something I'd have to give a trial run. I run an RP, and the thought of being able to tag your RP partners in a post does sound sort of nice.
Regardless, I'm itching to see what V5 will bring, as proboards has always been my host of choice. The customizable templates sound downright heavenly. Eagerly awaiting the BetaZone release.
