ok i have updated to Global MessagesVersion 2.4.2 Release

This plugin will allow you to show messages for the user across your forum.



- Multiple Messages

- Permission Messages (guests, members)

(still cant pick wide range of different member-groups or pick a rank lvl only to recieve message)
- User Specific Messages

- Category / Board specific messages

- Main Page Only

- Enable / Disable option

- Customise look

- HTML supported in title and message body

i still hope you can add this.... i wrote in past (on page 7 of this thread) so as to not repeat request, please refer to that page. i have been checking each week to see if there is a new update, and hope soon that a group/rank can be selected from a dropdown that pulls the info from custom groups made etc. (referance the picture on page 7)

thankyou and i know you have to be very busy ,
and i just fear that we come out of beta testing and i wont be ready for the switch (i am using a test forum so as to not freak my several forums / some people dont do well with changes happening, so its better for me to do the upgrade to v5 and add all plugins in one day, so i only hear screaming for a week not a month or 2)

Is there a way to hide the messages on custom pages? (or even specific custom pages) Not necessarily via the plugin but some way I could do it via the custom page html if that was easier.

I'm not sure if this is what you intended but 'Main Page Only' is both the forum main page (with all the categories) and the 'Home' page if you have a custom page set as that. It'd be great if you could choose to display on these two pages or not in the same way as you can choose boards and categories.

yep peter i was just wondering if you have heard anything recent about> if/when they might be getting Ability to search for groups/fingers crossed - ranks , as plugin options?

Slightly odd bug, I was looking at our forum as a guest and tried to navigate to the calender page (which as an admin I have disabled) and above the 'You do not have permission to view the calender' message I got ALL the global messages I have anywhere on the forum.... Any idea how to make it so that none/only the ones on all pages show?

Version 3 is available from the first post.

- Option to not parse new lines (useful for HTML content)
- Members can hide messages, and show them all again from the Yootil Bar

Version 3 was wrote a few months ago and I finished it today, there may be bugs, if so, let me know.

Groups is now possible, I will see about adding it in the future.

Yes, if I get to a not allowed page (which is rare now I've activated the calender again) I still get this. Will try and screencap it next tome it happens.

Is there a way to make specific messages display or not display on custom pages?

The bottom message should be in the Candidate Barracks subboard only, the next one in the Characters board, the next one in Advertisments, and the bottom of the one you see above it in Weyrling Barracks. Rather than none displaying they all display - that's every global message I have in the plugin. (This screenshot is logged in so not just a guest problem)

Just tried out version 3 and it doesn't happen there so cheers.

But questions about that one. Is it possible to change the eye (I only know it's an eye because I tried some of the other 'eye' plugins on our test forum) to a different icon?

And is there a way for the collapsed messages to go into the right hand corner along with the other icons provided by PB and plugins like the theme changer and Brian's admin menu?

EDIT: Think I've worked out replacing the image. Just swap it in the build section on the images tab?

When you collapse a message, and the expand it, the msg icon bottom left doesn't go away until you change page.

When you have multple messages (I've tried it with two) if you collapse them you get multiple message icons bottom left - they resolve into one when you refresh or change page.

I should probably add a Settings page so you can change the eye image, I wouldn't recommend doing it via the build tab, as when you update, it will likely get reset to default.

Not sure about the icons on the right as it uses the Yootil bar.  I think a better option would be to add an option into the Yootil plugin that allows you to place it on the right.

I'll look into those bugs with the icon not hiding, and duplicates, will put out a release towards the weekend hopefully.

is there any way the messages inputted can become part of the 'data' so updating isn't a case of copy pasting all the messages out and the copy pasting them back in? As long as you only delete the plugin of course rather than the 'plugin and data'

Nope, not really possible because of how quickly it could fill up a key.

Best option is to just hang in there, ProBoards will likely add in the option to update a plugin while keeping the data.

I created a message that was only too display in two specific boards (no titlebar) and it started off collapsed... I remade it and it still started off collapsed.

Other titlebar less messages I've made for specific boards seem to display fine... I'm not sure what was going on with that one.
