downloading plug-ins [F]

Is this the only way to use plug-ins? You need to first download them to your computer?

Currently, yes. In the future we will have a way for you to directly install them without downloading.

If you only have a rough estimate as to when this might be implemented that's okay.

My forum is eligible to switch to v5 but I'd prefer to wait until I'm able to get my forum looking the same way as it looks now.

I don't think there's a solid ETA for this yet. Since it's already possible to share plugins, it's not one of our top priorities. In the meantime, the .pbp files are completely safe. You can download them directly from posts here on support, upload them to your forum, and then delete the copies off of your hard drive. They don't affect your computer at all and take up practically no space.
