Since I've only seen the admin panel through the eyes of an admin (rather than an owner) I thought it was time to create a V5 forum so I could create a new V5 layout that was very different. It was a very freeing and fun experience. At some point I may play around with side tables - something I never would have bothered with in V4.5. And I loved being able to really fine tune the colors (grays can be very tricky) so the visual editor was very helpful in this regard. Doing a theme like this on V4.5 would have taken me so much longer and I don't think it would have looked nearly as nice. Oh, and I finally used gradients.

jimmuck & pip, I think spike just maxed out his forum width, which you can do by going to: Admin Home > Themes > Colors & Styles > Visual Editor. Open the "Forum: Width" and set it for 1000px. Have fun!

You can also set the forum width as a percentage so that it adjusts to the viewer's screen size, such as 100%.

Thank you Folks, will the 1000px or 100% settings apply through all the pages or just the WELCOME page?

I did the 1000px setting as you both suggested and it LOOKS full, but when I go back to my Welcome page? it's still narrow .... maybe I just have to Log-Out and back in again and see if that does the trick.

I for one, would always recommend using a percentage rather than a pixel. Just imagine, you have a resolution of 1024px, you set the width to 1,000px and your forum looks amazing and perfect. However, then someone on a much larger resolution comes, and the width is set to only 1,000px, and then can see too much stuff on the sides which is all empty spaces.

If you have a look in Template Modifications, there is also an easy way that pawl has done for you to have a header width different to your category/board/threads. Which can also be great, depending on what you're going for.

I wasn't sure about what would happen once I authorized the Changeover to our New Board and I liked the 'width' on 1000px attempt.

However, when I tried the 100% setting? it stretched me page to oversize where the right hand side of my Board wasn't there ... now, I may move up to a larger
New Monitor with possibly higher Resolution ... so, as you point out, the 1000px setting may lead to future problems ... and as you can guess? I don't need any 'future problems'
I may not be around to resolve them, Ha! Ha!

I will check out 'Paul's' posts,  but I don't really want different widths of Header/Category/Boards/Threads .... we're all older codgers and not too fond of tooooooo much change.

Anyways, don't think I'm not grateful for your input, I relish it and appreciate you both responding to my 'helplessness' or should that be 'hopelessness' and I'm GLAD that you're

OOOOOOPS! I just twigged .... I have a 23" Monitor and I know that my Resolution is higher than 1000px,  could that be one of MY problems?? I better go back and try the settings again.

100% would make everything stretch to the whole browser.
If it for some reason is going off screen? I would recommend reducing it to something in the 90's. I find 94% is a great size personally.

Now that you mention that I'm offski to try the lesser % and see how she runs, thank you Sticky'


I just done that and it's looking similiar to the 1100px setting so, I'll leave it on the % setting and see what feedback I get from our Members.

I post a Link to my New Board and wonder if you think it's O.K. to go ahead and Upgrade?? us old farts don't need to much Fancy Naked ladies or Harley Davidson
