Graphics ninja here! After reading this very long and winding thread I just wanted to throw out a bit of observation. I notice that for the most part everyone is liking everything (literally sometimes). However it seems that 99% of the stuff that is maybe not so popular or more of a complaint seems directly tied to the colors or styles of the current theme or other themes. So I just want to make two points.

1) This is our theme. Here on support. It's how our support forum converted. When a forum converts, the existing colors are converted to the new theme.We're totally open to suggestions on changes to our default theme. Try to remember that when you convert your forum to v5 your colors will be maintained. But they will also be easily editable (you guys in BetaZone know what I'm talking about )by you. So if you have ideas for one of the Support themes let us know. We want to hear way to improve it. Martyn's even got a thread here. But remember if it's cosmetic, it's not really a reflection on v5 at all.

2) We have not gotten to the other themes yet. So some of them may be rough. They've literally just had their colors transferred. We haven't even touched them really. We will get around to making each and every one of them beautiful. We even might make a few look like v4 did just to show off the power of v5. Maybe we'll even add a new theme or two.

Alright, well thank you everyone for being patient. Try to remember the difference between something that's a color and something that's a feature. Seems like most of you just don't like the colors, and that's something we can easily change.

So will Board Images convert as well as existing colors. I have a ton of icons.

Apart from the time it took me to login and get my account active it is good experience to be using a V5 'live forum'. Just a matter of becoming familiar with where things are and how stuff works. I've found it quite easy to adapt which will be reassuring for the members of our forum, but when the time to change over comes they no doubt will be quite vocal about what they don't like and ask if we can change it back That's life ...
Think we need to advise our members to check which email addy they used to sign up with us, or half of them will never get back on again!!

Well I created as Patrick suggested another board in Beta and I copied everything that makes my board my board into this test board and it seems to be working ok. All my icons from photobucket transferred over no problem. All my colors where copied and pasted and that seems to work.
So I have backed up up global and main footers and headers plus all icons and in short all that makes my current board my has been saved so that when this conversion happens I can cut and paste my board back to the way it was.

Over all I think the forums are much easier to use. I think that just navigating in general is faster and smoother and looks better. Of course I am having to re-learn how to use the forums, but that is to be expected with a huge update like this.

I personally love things like the VS Admin tool. I think it's great to be able to tag people. It would be very nice however, if you guys were able to add the member search in just like facebook does it for whenever you use the @ sign. It is a bit of a pain to remember people's usernames on here. Another thing is that my username is my real name. It was a bad choice i know...but now that I have posted so much, I don't want to lose my account. Sure people could already know that if they wanted to, but now anyone who wants to tag me in a post will remember it...not a huge deal, but personally something I wish I could change

One thing that I have found really annoying is the "participated" button. Yes, it's nice to be able to have that feature on all the forums now and not just the ones with that type of ad enabled, but having to click a button instead of having it at the top of the forum is a pain...

You guys have done a great job with the Admin panel though. At first, I had a lot of trouble finding my way around because it was so different, but now that I am starting to understand it, I realize that it is way too easy...I hadn't been coding at all in 4.5 lately, but now I am way more interested in working with the plugins features. Also the fact you can edit the templates and do pretty much anything with your forum without being forced to do it in a roundabout way with JS is gonna make forum designers REALLY happy. I don't really personally understand how much people are complaining about having to re-build the special codes and designs in their skins. Yea, it takes a bit of time, but now instead of being a total pain in the A** to go in and edit your headers you can do it all with plugins and HTML edits....it's beautiful....so beautiful!

Props to all you guys who've worked on V5 and even those who have been helping out with other stuff while others fix it up for us. You guys are truly amazing

I personally love things like the Patrick Clinger tool.

We've already fixed 43 bugs in the last two weeks.  Our team is working a lot of overtime to get v5 out the door, and they've been doing a great job.

About the BetaZone, are the sites released in groups? I'm asking because I thought I read that somewhere. If its true, how often? Because my forum has been in the same spot for a day now. ^^


At first, I was highly confused and not crazy about the update. But now that I have been using it, I'm VERY pleased with it. I think it is amazingly done. So, a big thanks to the team for pulling this off for us. Its kinda like a christmas gift, haha. It exceeded my expectations with not many problems other then the avatar maker. I did post it in the bugs board, but it might be my computer to. Not sure which. But, no problem on my end. Very good job.
