Is it possible to get some sort of IM/Chat system for the admin area?

You can use the forum's PM system to communicate with staff very easily. Additionally when reviewing reported posts you are able to discuss with staff what to do in each report.

What is it you would like to do as far as communication is concerned in the admin area? Was there something specific?

I believe he is asking about a separate page where all the admin and mods can talk in one room,
not visible to the regular members.

The PM system is not set up for this.

The PM system actually could by used like this since Conversations now exist in v5 and it would be as simple as starting a conversation sent to all staff.

Additionally this is why boards have permissions as well. You can (and most forums do) create a staff board where the staff discuss things away from the rest of the members.
