In v4, we have the option of sending a message back to a member whose account is pending approval when we either approve or deny that account. I use this feature a lot for people who have created new accounts simply because they can't remember their login info for their current account. Typically, I'll respond with directions on how to recover/change their password, and include my email in case they have questions.
I currently have a similar situation on my betazone board. The user knows they have an account, but must be having problems upgrading to the global login. I wanted to send her a message telling her to check her PMs on the v4 board, but I don't see that option anymore. I'd really like that part back if possible.

I haven't had the opportunity to test this, but is there an option to email that member ? (you can email members from V5 without needing to know their email address) As long as emailing is not used for personal reasons, you should be ok to help a member to login
Forgotten login info is often resolved with a forgot password request

Not directly from the pending registrations page, no. Not even from their profile - I can only PM. I would have to go to "email members" from the admin area to do it. So, it's not really convenient, unless I'm missing something. But yes, the password reset is usually what I advise them to do via that message, and to email me if that doesn't work and they need more help.

Yeah, that was the area i meant (email members), but you want that option to be available from their profile or from the approval page.

Ideally, yes. I'm going to go to that person's profile as is and search via IP for existing accounts before I approve or deny, so it would be handy to have the option available in one of those two places in case I find one. I will understand if it's not possible, though.

Sorry to revive this thread, but I was actually very surprised we don't get to give a reason when denying a new account, like we could in V4. I just denied a member thinking I would be prompted to give a reason, but nothing... so the member will have no idea why their account was denied :\
Also, like moonbeam, I often have members who forget they already have an account, and I would like to be able to tell them so when I deny the new account -- instead, I would now have to first go to 2 other pages (security log to search for the IP, and email members to send them a message), and then go back to the pending page to deny the account... I find it very inconvenient and counter-intuitive.
It would also be nice if the account names on the pending page were linked to the actual new accounts, like they used to on V4 (any reason why they wouldn't?) It's really difficult to decide whether or not we want to approve a new account when we have nothing except the account name to base our decision on...
I would really appreciate if you would consider improving the pending accounts features, so we don't have to juggle between several pages to do the same thing we could do on a single page before.

First of all, in every situation that isn't rejecting the person you can use the Email Members feature to send the person an email. If they are having trouble with a password or something of that nature we put a lot of time and effort in to making password recovery the best it can be. It's no longer necessary to have the admin of the forum be involved in all of this work to help a member recover their account. The Secure Login and Registration system was designed to do that for you. There's even a wizard that can guide members through various problems they might be having. The problems that cause these issues in v4 no longer exist in v5. And any trouble someone has can be resolved simply by reading instructions on their screen.
As for rejecting a member message we will need to discuss this. There may be a reason why we are not allowing it, though to me it seems as if it wouldn't be hard to implement. Just like email members you would not need to see their email. You could simply enter a message after the rejection and our system could do the rest. We will talk about it and make a decision. Be aware that this isn't likely to be implemented right away.

Yes, we know we can email regardless. It's just not as convenient to have to go out of pending registrations to do so, that's all. Agreed that it's nothing "needed", but just a convenience that would be nice to have back. It was functionality we did have in v4, after all.

I added it to our list for discussion. That includes making the acceptation message easier to send as well. Essentially I imagine a dialog that pops up when you accept or reject asking for verification and has a place for an optional message.

Essentially I imagine a dialog that pops up when you accept or reject asking for verification and has a place for an optional message. pulling up an old thread, but has there been any progress here? On our forum we require member registration and match it to a membership list for our fishing Club - previously I could key on email, but can't do that now of course. That is OK, as I require users to use FirstLast as their username (i.e. JohnDoe), but 75% of the folks do not read the 3 different sets of instructions where this is listed and I get random user names and I have to reject them - I need a way, like in v4, to send them a reason for the rejection.....

They have, however, been addressing posts made in the Feature Requests board and adding them to some back-end docket of [potential] things to add or update. Granted, I'm not a staff member and one can confirm true accuracy of this specific request's status. I agree that this is a much-needed feature to be brought back since it was extremely helpful for rejected or accepted users, be that as it may they make the final decisions. A staff member should get back to this posting and further answer your request. I hope this tidbit has assist in some manor. Andrew
