If you've been paid $30 or $40 DOLLARS several times for creating a template using a 3rd party code then maybe you should offer to pay someone to make a backwards compatible code. I doubt anyone is going to spend time making a code to convert an old code for free when it isn't going to be used for new posts..... but then again , there are some generous people here so who knows... I've never been paid a dollar for a code I've written and I'd hope that no-one charged anyone for using a code I've written.

It's more that I get commissioned for the graphics (banners, buttons, template design.) Some of these are things using animation sequences or something like designing an entire newsletter.
I am just one person out of how many using this and kindly asking for a conversion; it's called looking at the bigger picture.
(So just because a group of people were completely happy with the things I made them, and gave me money because of being satisfied for the amount of time and effort I spent on their customized banner images, you are saying that umpteen hundred forum owners and members will never get a plugin because "they aren't being paid?
This just sounds completely wrong on so many levels. I only got paid for them because they loved my artwork and WANTED to donate to it.)
Yeah, I am really hoping that this works out since it saves a huge amount of frustration and trouble for a great deal of the community using them in V4 and needing to swap to V5. If it just requires a person to do Edit> Modify Post then it is much swifter than having to swap everything out, including all text inside the tables, and changing every single actual post. Man.... it would take... so.... long... Even thinking about it is making me have severe anxiety.
Thanks~
Many of these forums have been around several years, and have accumulated well over several thousand threads (and posts) in which would all have to manually be changed. I couldn't even attempt to wrap my head around where to start if all of us were told to just go 'shove off' all because a few people rather not understand how complicated the situation can get.
All that I am doing is giving an example of what can easily fix it in a swifter manner by asking for a conversion, rather than the whole "we want [style] tags back", when they are obsolete. Not all of us know anything about div tags, nor how/why/what now has taken the place of [attribute] in the ubbc tables. Not all of us are programmers or coders, some of us are just writers, graphic designers, and have no way to fix the large scale amount of stuff accumulating over several years.
Trying to play coy really will not help anyone at all.

Codes from V4 won't work in V5/BetaZone. It's very much possible to recreate your same templates using the style tags we already have. Link me to an existing one on a V4 forum and I can probably recreate it, minus any special hover codes or anything. Could I possibly PM you the link to something I need converting for V5, please, Brian?

A plugin to get the old [style=] tags back would be beneficial for a load of people. Surely it would be possible?

We are trying to push for a conversion plugin that will change them to the appropriate div tags. It would be too much to ask for them to change everything they coded now - just to have [style] put back in.
A plugin that converts [style], and certain ubbc table attributes that are no longer coded in, to the new system would solve all the problems and save a mass-scale rampage of people quitting forums or removing theirs once they are forced to go to v5 since... people just have to face the fact that there are thousands of forums and thousands of users with thousands of posts using them.
We just need to try and be patient and hope that within the next several months or so it will be made when any person has time to do so...

If I was to think about trying this, one thing I'd do is make it so that eventually you'll end up not needing to use it (for new posts at least) because you'll be using the built-in style attribute (which works on tables, divs, spans, images and probably more). The difficulties in making this code come with getting it to work out what tags correspond to what and what to do with the faux classes and properties that aren't supported in V5. I imagine that people wouldn't want to change each old post individually but, as evidenced by iPokemon's plugin being removed, this is difficult to do without security problems. Lastly, there is the problem of how to get around people who'd just end up using the conversion part and never bothering to learn the V5 attribute format (ie. like actual HTML/CSS).

I wouldn't mind using the newer tags so long as I didn't have to go back and fix 5K posts from 2-3 years ago. I believe the majority of the consensus here is that it is a necessary evil that has to be resolved. Over time, people will probably also learn to use the newer format, but until they have a chance to wrap their heads around it and make the necessary changes for all templates currently saved its just.. going to be tongue-in-cheek.
Even with myself, I would have to take time to learn how to use the newer ones. The issue is that proboards must not have cared much about how many people were using iPokemon's script for the past how many years. Changing it without little warning sort of threw everything into a crap pile.
The best thing to do is to make a fix for the past script, and then let people learn how to update it (at their own learning progress) for the future so that they can not have a lot of their sites....well, broken.
Who would want to join, or go to, a forum that has how many posts over the past how many years with a bunch of garbled, broken, text for almost the entire majority of their site that no longer works?

As an administrator and template creator am facing quite a bit of worry over this issue. I know I'm not alone, as most roleplay sites rely very heavily on these enhanced ubbc templates. In fact, it's pretty much the only thing keeping me from updating my actual site early. I love most of v5, it's an update that's been needed for a long time, but I fear the livelihood of my site is at stake once the update comes if I cant figure out what to do with what will become hundreds of posts of garbled code-speak. I am eagerly awaiting a more plausible solution, other than recreating each template and editing all old posts one by one. This is the kind of thing that makes me glad we moved sites in the middle of last year.
