Member Galleries (3.1.1)

Hi, Todge.

Just curious if you've had a chance to tinker around with the Member Gallery and Word Counter to see why they don't want to play nice together. Definitely not trying to rush or anything - I'm just simply curious so I've got something to let my members know.

No rush, Todge. It's not something we have to have any time soon. Take care of the more important requests. We've disabled the Word Counter, since the Members wanted the gallery more. So, we're good. I was only curious anyways.

I have installed the Word Counter on my test forum but they both appear to be playing together without an issue. Could you please PM me all the settings you have in the Word Counter so I can add them in mine to try and replicate the problem?

I haven't seen the plugin's config to say for sure but keep in mind that if you've configured the plugin for a minimum word count then that minimumum will be enforced (you won't be allowed to post until that minimum is met), so if all you're posting are images (not words) in a board then it might make sense to exclude that board from any minimum counts.

Very good point. I did have the Limit Threshold set to just 1 (minimum words) and just put it to 0. None of my members are on Vent right now, but I'll have them test this out when I can catch one of them. I've also added in the 3 gallery boards into Word Counter and set the Limit Type to "none".

Hopefully it was simply that but if not then there is a troubleshooting section on the advanced tab where you can enable logging of cascaded limits so you can then see in your javascript console the thought process of the plugin while it is evaluating a specific category, board or thread against the plugin settings created for that forum. Also keep in mind that as staff you are by default exempt from any and all limits unless you login as an ordinary member or set the option in the plugin settings to allow staff to also feel the pain.

It will probably be tomorrow before I can catch anyone on Vent, but I'll post our results here. Hopefully Todge hasn't pulled out too much of their hair.

Hi, Todge.

Just wanted to let you know that I haven't forgotten about testing Chris's idea with excluding the gallery boards in the Word Counter plugin. I haven't been able to catch any of my guys on Vent, but one was talking about being on today, so hopefully we can check that and I can let you know.

Current Version 2.0.5

With version 1.2.0 and above you have the option to allow comments, but if you want that option you will need a key..

To create the needed key, install this plugin and ensure it is ABOVE the Member Galleries plugin in your plugins list.



You can change the key permissions, the following settings work for me..

Read Permissions set to Everyone
Write Permissions to Members and Staff

i cant seem to download this key with chrome, and i cant change my browser .... how can i get this key another way please?

Go to your Admin > Plugins > Manage and see if your available keys are full. If they are, you'll have to purchase more or get rid of a plugin that uses the same type of key (regular key or super key). To see what plugin uses what type of key, click the Keys tab on the same page.

iv no superkeys left but if asked admin about buying one .... do i need one for this ?

Todge! Wonderful news! Chris was correct - I needed to add the gallery boards into the board exclusion list in the Word Counter. We are good as gold! Thank you VERY much for looking into this!

It doesn't look like the gallery itself uses a key, but the gallery comments uses a Post key (a regular key, and you're showing 8 available), so not sure why it's not working for you. Maybe Todge can help you better on this.
