Display name history?

Hi,

Would it be possible to implement a Display Name/Alias history a lá Steam? Sometimes people change their profile around and it can be nearly impossible to recall who they are even if you've seen them a lot. The biggest considerations would be in terms of how many to save and perhaps a minimum time requirement to prevent rapid changes from flushing the list.

This would be a 5.x feature, of course. If not, does it sound like something that might be possible as a plugin? I seem to recall there being storage available in profiles, although I don't know the limits.

I believe it shows up in their activity feed.

It shows what they changed their display name to, but not what it was before.

One of the people that sparked this realization for me is Graham: support.proboards.com/user/43147

I went down a few pages to check for him and there's the following:

There is no item for his original Display Name. If he didn't have his Facebook/Twitter information there, I would have no idea who he was. As soon as I saw Graham it clicked, but again that was from information that he provided willingly.

edit: Would "changed from ___ to ___" be too much?

snap2000 - the name is displayed on the left side, so unless they are non-stop changing it, I see that as a bit redundant

I figured. I was still thinking as long-term, but the activity is going to be so full of stuff anyway it won't matter.

Wait, wasn't there going to be a filter for types of activity? That would be perfect for this kind of thing.
