The test sites will be deleted after v5 goes live, so that will have nothing to do with the upgrade process. I'm pretty sure I read that the test sites will NOT be deleted right after V5 goes live, that they will be available until August. That way, we can refer to the test site and copy whatever changes we've made that we want to replicate on the live site. At least I hope that's the case. As for logging in under V5, I want to give my members a heads-up about the upcoming changes and make them feel comfortable with the process. I have members who had trouble registering using the current process, so I want to mitigate any issues. I don't want to just refer them to a video. I guess you can say that I am a hands-on admin and my members are used to that. Most of them only need to get on to one site and the video seems to focus on linking their profile to multiple sites. Just looking for simple step by step instructions. Thank you. If you go to any rest site on freemessageboards, there is a notice at the top stating that the test sites "WILL be deleted at the end of betazone".

Once all forums are upgraded to v5, BetaZone will go offline. Automatic conversions start at the end of April and likely will take a few weeks or longer to complete.

Couple questions. So how does the upgrade actually happen? Do we use our test site and request an account upgrade and that's how it happens? What is the exact process and how long from the time I say, yes, "upgrade my forum" until the upgrade actually happens. Is it immediate? Does it take a few hours? A day? Also, are there step by step instructions I can post for my members on how to upgrade their account on the V5 Live site? It seems like it's different for admins because we all have at least two forums we post on: Our forum and the Proboards site. What do members do? I am anticipating there is going to be confusion as to whether they use their current password to sign in or create a new one. Thank you. Thanks Patrick. I'm still looking for an answer to my original questions (quoted above). Thank you.

kpatchThere is a video that Patrick made that is excellent at explaining the registration process and how the linked multiple accounts work. As for step-by-step process, the first thing is to choose an email the member wants to login with. On version 5, once they login through normal means of typing in the login name, there will be a step-by-step process that guides them through changing it to an email, so that they can link multiple accounts if they wish to (as long as all accounts are underneath the same email). I'll look for the video.

Melody [MelloLily], I already gave her the link to Ryan's video on the previous page. It wasn't what she was looking for.

I'm still looking for an answer to my original questions (quoted above). Thank you. Hi, When you click to upgrade, you will be placed in a queue. Depending on how many forums are ahead of you (and how large they are) will determine the timing. For upgrading their account, we're finishing making changes right now to drastically simplify the upgrade process. They will just login with their username and password (we're actually going to remove any text that says to sign in with their email, although we will still support it). So basically, they just login, and it will guide them through the process. It should be extremely straight forward.

Fabulous, I'm relieved to hear about the simplification. It will make the transition go much more smoothy!
As for clicking to upgrade, do I click at the test site? Not sure there is anywhere else to click. If so, I am not aware of that.
Thank you Patrick, Moonbeam and Melody for your responses.

The button to upgrade will be in your forum admin panel. It will be clearly marked at the top.

The button to upgrade will be in your forum admin panel. It will be clearly marked at the top. Will it only be visible to the main admin?

My board does not have to be off Maintenance Mode to join beta zone right?
I'm interested in seeing how my background is with V.5, also is there a limit to how many forums I can upgrade to v.5?

Currently a copy of your forum will be made, so don't think it would matter.

Currently a copy of your forum will be made, so don't think it would matter. I have a copy of my test which I only used to see how the process of V.5 was, as a matter of fact what was all the admin features I have been apart of several forums(only a few actually just said that to make it sound stronger..), I just thought since it was a test forum, why not test on it since I didn't know it'll just make a copy of my forum. I won't be working on that forum at all. My main forum is the forum in my signature. At first I didn't know it was a copy, as a matter of fact I didn't have any clue what "V.5" was.

Question: What happens if you don't do a test forum and the time rolls around for the upgrade? Will it just automatically upgrade your forums? I'm not too literate when it comes to computer stuff. I love Proboards because it was easy for me to set up and use. Is the new forum going to be really different, or will it look just like it does now but with more features (aside from the new sign-in protocol)? Do I NEED to do a test forum? Thanks.
