I noticed this as I tried to send someone a message. In v4, members' mini-profiles that showed up in threads had links to send a PM (among other contact options). This appears to have been removed for v5. You can click on the options wheel on the right to get there, but it seems like a step back to remove the mini-profile link. Since it's not a bit more out of sight, it may lead to fewer private messages across the service.

Seem to remember VS Admin telling me that this was because for v5 the mini-profile was simplified, as in v4.5 it was seen to be too cluttered. Easy enough to add back in though. =]

daniel click the dropdown on the right side of the post (that has the gearbox), then go to Member > Send Message

I guess I should have added it to this thread. >.< I forgot about it when I thought of making this one. My worry is that it'll decrease the amount of messages across the service. It went from taking one click to taking a click, a scroll, another scroll, then another click. That's a significant amount of friction to add for a major feature. The code is an easy fix for savvy users and admins, but may not be so obvious for others. Aside from the "personal text" field in the mini-profile, I disagree about it being too busy in v4/v4.5. ;D

If someone wants to send a PM to someone, I don't think that will stop them. v4 had way too much clutter on the screen, and we wanted to reduce that in v5. As an admin, I have 17 different options I can click for a post in that dropdown. If we moved all of them onto the page, it would get crazy It takes about 1 second to click, scroll, and click to send the message. But of course, you can always edit the template (since we give you direct HTML access) and add the link in yourself
