I understand how to set this plugin up for a affiliate post but the only thing I can't grasp
is the code part of the post.
ex.

ok what goes in place of the question marks?
$[input.add-1] or something else?

I'm not Scott, but I'll try to help you out.

To answer your question, you'll put #[input.value-#], where # is the position of the field in the UI based on it's category ID. You may want to review the linked post in my previous post - just above yours - for additional information. If you still need help, feel free to ask here - I'll help the best I can.

To get you started, if those are the only 2 in that category - with the 1st listed item being the HREF URL and the and the 2nd item being the image URL, it would look something like this:

NOTE: I haven't personally used URL's or quotes in the plugin on my forums, so you'll need to test those to see if it yields the correct results. if you're looking to have the URL's in a code box, try this route instead:

No problem! Glad you got it figured out!

There is ONLY $[input.name-#] and $[input.value-#]. There are no other replacement variables, regardless of what they represent. If you're looking for what the field name is in the UI, use the $[input.name-#]. If you're looking for what the person entered for that field, even if it's a URL or image URL, use $[input.value-#]. $[input.address-#] and $[input.image-#] are not valid replacement variables - as I'm sure you found out.


Using what I think you're getting from the user (Affiliate info), here's one way to show what they represent:

Field Name: Name
User Enters: MSG

Field Name: Forum URL
User Enters: https://something.proboards.com

Field Name: Affiliate Image
User Enters: https://some_image_host.com/direct_link_to_image.jpg

The Field Name is the name you have given the field in the UI, and is accessed via $[input.name-#]. What the User Enters is what the user put in that field, and is accessed via $[input.value-#]. Given the above, the customize post tab could be:

$[input.name-1]: $[input.value-1]
$[input.name-2]: $[input.value-2]
$[input.name-3]: $[input.value-3]

and would result in the post being posted like this:

Name: MSG
Forum URL: https://something.proboards.com
Affiliate Image: https://some_image_host.com/direct_link_to_image.jpg

Hopefully, that helps clear up what the 2 replacement variables are and what they represent.

I am creating an online RPG using your custom post template, and I am running into an issue where the plugin doesn't have enough data in order to handle the multiple character sheet templates for my site.

The error I am running into is

Your plugin settings could not be saved. Your plugin requires XXXXXX additional bytes (the limit is 65535 bytes).

Is there a way to increase the data limit, either by using a Key (or super key), or increasing the default size? 65kb is pretty small for what I want to achieve.

I note that the plugin below has an Expansions Plugin should someone go over the byte limit. Is there perhaps a way of adding such a plugin for your plugin, if I can't change the plugin size?

Plugins can only hold so much data, which is a hard-coded limit on PB's end and not something that can be overridden. I doubt even keys would help, as the super forum key can only hold 32kb of data (32768 bytes) - half of what the plugin itself can hold.

Lynx is correct, a plugin can only hold 65kb, which includes the plugin settings.

A key would only hold half that of the plugin, as Lynx said, so depending on the size of the plugin BEFORE any extra data is added, it may be worse than the plugin itself. Also, to use a key would mean an extensive addition to the code as key data cannot be added on the admin screen, Lynx would need to add way for you to input all the data from a page within your forum.

It is possible to use one plugin to collect extra data for use with another, but that is up to Lynx , who would have to weigh up whether it's worth the effort for one person, AND considering that V6 may require extensive re-writing anyway.

Thanks for the replies guys. It’s too bad the plug-in isn’t editable, as I would be able to duplicate it and add a “2” or “3” etc to the end of each class so that I could use multiple copies of the plug-in on my site (I’d prob only need 2 copies).

kerrigan81 , Running multiple editions of the same plugin is not always that simple. Depending on how the plugin is written you could end up having to change everything from function names, variable names, classes and even cell IDs.

kerrigan81 , I've created a reservoir plugin to add another 64K (download here). It is designed to support multiple versions of itself. To do so simply copy (export/import) and increment the Plugin ID: custom_template_reserve0, custom_template_reserve1, custom_template_reserve2, etc. (in that order)

Only tested against the latest (Custom Posts Template v1.0.1) by adding a secondary field to a form and its field created in the original plugin.

A field created in a reservoir plugin can reference the ID of a form created in the main plugin and vice versa. It treats all data entered from main as well as reservoir plugins as all coming from the main plugin with 64K chunks of data being added to the data pool per reservoir plugin (minus coding overhead).

That is almost perfect! Is there a way to add another copy of the "Customize Post" tab to the Reserve Plugin, so that I can add additional page templates?

It wasn't an issue with the form entries that was killing my space, it was the fact I was trying to use 8 different pre-configured templates.

The customize post tab was not included because of the way the code is written in the main plugin would cause conflicts between reserve and main. You can use additional Reserve plugins to offload forms and fields from the main if you need to make room for more templates in the main plugin. UPDATED (23-Feb 2022)
