I thought that the term "threads" was going to be discontinued in V5. I see in many places they have been renamed "topics", but in many areas, they are still called "threads". I don't think we need two words to describe the same thing. New members might get confused, and think there is a difference between "threads" and "topics". "Threads" should be renamed "topics" everywhere.

Why threads to topics? Why not topics to threads? It's all just a simple case of preference really. Some people prefer them being threads, others topics. Personally though, I don't mind either, but that's maybe because I am used to calling them both.
I don't think new members would be confused.

I'm with flyoffacliff on this. I've managed to change them from Threads to Topics pretty much everywhere except when you are creating a new Topic (!) The word Thread is 'forum lingo', whereas Topic is I think more easily understood even by people totally unfamiliar with forums, interwebz etc At least it would be good if there was a feature to be able to convert to whichever one you want Just for anyone else's ref, here's some previous on Thread/Topic and including the one that I couldn't change: support.proboards.com/thread/439202/change-create-thread-topic?scrollTo=5086736&page=1

Both are correct and both will be used.
We already refined a lot of words and lingo when it came to v5. You are currently using a forum, not a board. This is a post located in a thread located in a board located in a category. You could send me a message and start a conversation if you wanted. Threads and conversations are both types of topics. A thread with a date is an event, with a question and answers it is a poll. You are a member, but there are also guests and staff. Everyone is a user. Members can be placed in groups.
You get the idea.
Both Threads and Topics are correct. People wont get confused. There will be documentation, a help guide, and most important regarding this thread an appendix listing all forum terms and their definitions.
Topic is rarely used as it is. Searching our entire code database only returned handful (4-5) places where it is stated and it makes sense in those places. Though honestly, its so rarely used we might just replace them. Not sure why this is a feature request.
Was there somewhere in particular that bothered you?

hahaha love it Ryan Roos, I don't think that could have been put better! I think I'll use this myself if you don't mind on my own board! Glad to hear about the documentation too
My personal preference is still Topic. The only place I couldn't change it was when you:
> are on a board > want to create a new thread (topic) > and click the button to the top right of the board > this brings up the email type area where you type > on this area it says 'Thread' in two places
For continuity I'd like it to say Topic here but, like in my other post I linked to, it's no great shakes given I've managed to change it on the main areas. I'm stepping out now, thanks again
